Brigid of Ireland is now out in German, published by Brunnen Verlag Giessen. It’s a wee bit smaller and has my picture on the back cover. The Irish names are the same, so I was able to read some of it. I truly hope it finds favor with the German people.
For Irish lovers: (If you’re not one, skip this part. But with 40
million Americans claiming Irish heritage, I’m betting not many of you
will skip it.) No matter where you live, you can find an Irish or
Celtic festival to attend and more than one Irish musical event. I’m
sure that’s true. If you think I’m wrong, e-mail me and I’ll try to
find one for you. It just amazes me how much is out there. I’m having
fun trying to get to those closest to me. As for festivals, Ohio has
four sizable ones in Dublin, Cleveland, Dayton, and Cincinnati. It’s
not just Americans promoting these events; it’s the Irish. Tourism is a
major industry in Ireland. Have you heard of the Irish diaspora? That
refers to the number of people of Irish ancestry living in other
countries. According to Wikipedia, that’s over 80 million people, 14
times the current population of Ireland! The largest organized group
promoting Irish music, dancing, and language is Comhaltas Ceoltóirí
Éireann. Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, the organization has branches
all over the world where lessons are given, contests and competitions
are held, and concerts are promoted. Every year the organization
chooses a troupe to perform all over North America. I’m hoping to
attend one of their concerts on the 17th. If you’re local and want to
go, let me know.

Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame
(See pictures above.)
This month’s newsletter is a little late coming to your
inbox because I have just returned from a book signing at the Indiana
Baseball Hall of Fame. I was joined there by my cousin (and co-author)
Scott Brown and his family, and fellow baseball authors Susan
Dellinger, W.C. Madden, and Pete Cava. SABR member Dan O’Brien was also
in attendance and took pictures. It was a small gathering, but it was
nice to see the hall’s expansion. If you are ever near Jasper, Indiana
(a beautiful part of the country) stop in and see the hall of fame.
It’s located on the Vincennes University campus and is opening a new
1,000 + square foot addition.
A few thoughts about the postseason: (If you are not a fan, skip this part if you must.) I love October, and not just for the fall color. Baseball is at its best in October. Of course, it’s too bad my team didn’t make the postseason, but putting that aside, its great to watch the game being played by guys who want to win. This October marks the 99th anniversary of the last Cubs World Series win. The subject of my co-authored book, Three Finger, played a major part on that great team. The Cubs are in the postseason again this year, which is exciting. But by the time you read this they may have been eliminated. But if not, they are my sentimental favorite and I wish them well.
Zac Brown considers the weight of Edd Roush's bat while his brother Aaron looks on. Sister Katie is in the back ground. Roush's granddaughter, Susan Dellinger had brought the bat to the book signing.
Photo compliments of Dan O'Brien.
