Let's make Cheshvan GREAT again!
Kehilat Pardes Interim Logo Final
Today we celebrate Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan - the new month of Cheshvan - a month often called by its more distasteful name of MarCheshvan, meaning, the "Bitter Cheshvan."
Cheshvan has no holidays, and is purported to be the time when the flood-rains began in the times of Noach. A bitter time indeed.
Yet, the Chassidic masters sought to turn around the sadness of this month, and reach for something more positive. This to a tradition to reverse the letters of the month's nickname, and refer to it not as MarCheshvan, but rather as "RamCheshvan" - meaning, "Exalted Cheshvan!" In their minds, the month after a season of Chagim could be nothing other than super-charged with great energy and tremendous spiritual inertia!
Let us live up to the challenge and make Cheshvan GREAT again!
See you in shul!
