We're LIVE!
.CLUB Joins The 100 First New gTLDs Delegated To The Internet Root

It's official! .CLUB has been delegated to the Root of the Internet. This means that now browsers will be able to recognize web addresses ending in .CLUB.  After a process that has taken more than two years (not to mention a great deal of hard work, patience -- and money -- the very first working website with a .club extension is now live and working: www.nic.club.  As required by ICANN, every registry must first launch with their own website at the address www.nic.TLD.  On or around March 8th 2014 other websites with the .CLUB extension can begin to go live as well.

NamesCon FTW!

Nearly 600 movers and shakers (and a few gamblers) descended upon the newly renovated Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas for the innaugural NamesCon conference.  Kudos to organizers Richard Lau, Jodi Chamberlain and Jothan Frakes for organizing a great event. Our own Colin Campbell was on a panel to talk about .CLUB and the new domain name landscape.

At the event, .CLUB and SEDO held a drawing for $5,000 in credits toward a .CLUB premium name.  A hugh crowd turned out for the chance to win and get a great deal on a .CLUB name. Congratulations to our winners, Daniel Braisted of DidISayThat.biz, Bill Lozada of Mangiarotti and Cate Colgan of NameYourStartup.com.

As it turned out, the area of the Tropicana Hotel where NamesCon took place (and where many of the attendees were staying) was aptly called the "Club Tower."  Somehow, in the middle of the night, a big red DOT appeared in front of the word CLUB and for the duration of NamesCon everyone was welcome to the .CLUB Tower!  See, CLUB is everywhere!

Will 2014 be the year of .CLUB ?

                                    -Colin.CLUB

From the .CLUB Blog: What a journey it has been!  Year after year we waited for ICANN to deregulate and open up the domain space so that consumers, businesses and communities could get a great domain name that actually represented what they did.  Year after year, we waited and waited…

We started .CLUB Domains in 2011, years after I spent months working with Roger Collins, former owner of Afternic, to study the new extensions.  It became clear to me early on that certain top level domains would do better than others.

Our thesis formed around 4 principles: a successful top level domain needed to be short, memorable, add meaning, and NOT compete with .COM.   One domain that meets all of these requirements is .CLUB.

I have no doubt there will be a few domain extensions that do compete fairly well with .COM, but I believe the vast majority that do try to compete with the leader will fail. On the other hand there are names that have a different meaning than .COM or .ORG and those names can ultimately improve and enhance the Internet’s naming system by providing a more relevant experience online for end-users. We believe .CLUB is such a name.

Here’s my prediction for 2014:

"It will be the year of .CLUB, with .CLUB out-selling any other new generic extension in 2014."

The .CLUB Team takes on Asia
#ClubIsEveryWhere

The .CLUB team started 2014 on the road as CEO Colin Campbell and CMO Jeff Sass toured Asia, meeting with registrars in Japan and China along with our friends and partners at TLD Registry.  From Tokyo to Beijing to Xiamen (a/k/a “Domain Island) it was amazing to see the word “CLUB” recognized and used in ads, on signs and throughout every country visited.  According to Colin, “The more we travel the world, the more we realize that .CLUB truly is a global brand.  The word CLUB, in English, is a common sight everywhere we go, and the many international registrars we have met, many of whom have already signed our RRA, clearly understand the widespread appeal of CLUB as a top level domain name.”
