Dear Jamie,

As 2016 comes to a close, we at Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation are proud of what our partners have achieved so far, and look forward to a new year full of new accomplishments and new partnerships.

Partnering for Innovation is on track to provide more than 940,000 smallholder farmers with access to agricultural innovations that will increase yields, productivity, and incomes, while also building robust, sustainable markets. 2016 was the International Year of Pulses, and Partnering for Innovation has several partners that are contributing to increasing production and consumption of pulses in sub-Saharan Africa. In Zambia, Stewards Globe is building the market for certified legume seed by expanding its outgrower scheme and increasing farmer awareness of the benefits of growing and eating legumes. MEA in Kenya and Agro-Input Suppliers Limited in Malawi are commercializing a legume inoculant that increases legumes’ natural nitrogen fixation, reducing the need for nitrogen fertilizer and improving yields and soil health. Check out our annual report to learn more about the exciting work our partners are doing around the world.

As the United States transitions to a new presidential administration, bipartisan support in Congress for food security projects and agricultural development around the world remains strong. Partnering for Innovation is looking forward to welcoming nine new partners in 2017, and to continuing to ensure that farmers and entrepreneurs have the tools and resources they need to fulfill their potential.

We are very grateful for your work to enter emerging markets with new technologies and ideas. I am convinced that through your efforts, investments, innovation, and risk-taking, the future of farming will take place in these markets, and that the small-scale customers of today will become successful and profitable agricultural producers and economic drivers for your countries. We at Partnering for Innovation wish you a restful and happy holiday with your families and friends, and we look forward to continuing the journey with you in the new year.

Sincerely,
