Partnering for Innovation at the 2014 Borlaug Dialogue & World Food Prize

At the upcoming Borlaug Dialogue and World Food Prize in Des Moines, Iowa, Partnering for Innovation will lead a workshop to present and discuss a new guide, "From Smallholders to Shareholders: A Guide to Optimizing Private Sector Partnerships for Smallholder Impact.

This new guide details how to successfully implement private sector partnerships for smallholder impact, and the workshop will highlight case studies from the guide and feature speakers from companies who have successfully implemented the models showcased in the guide. An audience Q & A session will allow participants to delve deeper into the guide and its practical application to public private partnerships that benefit smallholder farmers.

This is the second year that Partnering for Innovation has held a side event at the Borlaug Dialogue, which this year addresses the question "The Greatest Challenge in Human History: Can We Sustainably Feed the 9 Billion People on our Planet by the Year 2015?"

Farmforce Ensuring Smallholder Access to United States Snow Pea Market

Forthcoming compliance with the US Food and Drug Administration's Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) could threaten Guatemalan smallholder farmer access to the United States' $280 million snow pea market. FSMA requirements will require Guatemalan exporters to adopt more extensive traceability procedures to allow importers to track production back to individual farmers.

Enter Farmforce, a mobile platform designed for aggregators managing smallholder outgrower schemes. It provides an affordable, appropriate software solution to meet aggregators' business needs.

The technology is being introduced into Guatemala by a partnership between Partnering for Innovation, Mercy Corps Guatemala, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, and Fair-Fruit, a local exporter.
