 | Dear {FIRST_NAME}, Welcome to the relaunch issue of In The Frame: the monthly Newsletter brought to you by Giles Babbidge Photography Ltd.
|
So... why the relaunch? Well, going by the feedback we received from our clients and newsletter readers, we decided to set up a blog back in March last year. This essentially took over from ITF, and has gone down really well, growing month by month, enabling a regular readership to keep up to date with what we do and the way we do it. Some readers simply have the page bookmarked, whilst others have chosen to receive the latest info via either RSS or email.
With the emphasis switched, then, In The Frame will now act first and foremost as an update of what has been discussed within the Blog pages in the past month. We will still be including a few stand-alone additions here and there but from now on, the Blog is, as they say, 'where it's at'.
In this edition, I want like to give you a flavour of the sort of things that get talked about over at the GBP Blog - because, believe it or not, it's not just photography that gets a mention. So, let's have a look at what's been going on throughout last year...

Case studies... What is one of the best ways to tell you exactly how we go about an assignment? Words? Yes. Example pictures? Of course. But what if you could actually see the whole process of a shoot from start to finish, from conception to completion?
Wherever possible, and with our clients' permission, we will film a shoot. More often than not, this takes the form of a time lapse video.

Not just about the pictures themselves... Pictures are one thing; how they get used and seen is quite another. At GBP, we offer a wide range of bolt-on services to complement the images we produce for you.
A dip into the topic of image presentation back in July started off like this:
People love photographs. Fact. Whether it's snaps of friends at the local pub or a corporate team-building day, we love to share stories and memories of the events which occur in our lives. Trouble is, a lot of people don't know how best to enjoy these pictures, and simply throw them in a drawer or onto a bookshelf in the corner of a room, never to see the light of day for years to come.

Business matters... One of the areas that frequently gets a mention on the Blog is that of business - issues such as professionalism, making the most of online opportunities, networking and strategic alliances.
Here's a snippet taken from a post in August last year:
Personally, I love this 'new wave' that the industry is following. Hey, I wouldn't be publishing a blog if I didn't! My company, and the way we operate, is all about educating our clients – not just about making great pictures for them. I will talk openly to anyone about the way we work, our equipment, the way we light our subjects... anything you like.

Something for the techies... Although the technical apsect of our work is not of paramount interest to everyone, there is nonetheless a percentage of the Blog's readership who do love to soak up this side of things. For this reason some posts, in reference to real-life assignments, discuss how we get around certain obstacles within the course of a shoot.
Again, from October:
On arriving at the warehouse, however, the conditions appeared less than favourable - a very dimly lit building with no windows, and what light there was fell to the ground in patches. First up, then, we had to stop and re-think how best to illustrate the primary elements we were trying to get across given these conditions - specifically, the overall space, capacity, professional methodology and organisation of the client.

Something to inspire... We all need inspiration and motivation. This can come in many guises, and because the Blog is all about sharing information, you will often see references to books, people, websites and videos which we have found useful and which we believe could benefit others also.
This was one such thought provoker, from December:
I had never heard of Randy Pausch until I stumbled upon this video of his last lecture, presented earlier this year to Carnegie Mellon University in the US. But I am so glad I found it. Straight up, you should know that it has nothing to do with photography; but I really recommend you take a look when you have a bit of spare time. And please, tell me what you think.
