DO IT GREEN! SEED LIBRARY RETURNS!

seed library logo reduced(1)
In light of the recent legalization of seed sharing in Minnesota, we are excited to fully reinstate the Do It Green! Seed Library. Our Seed Library program improves access to healthy, locally grown foods and promotes the use of native plants as sustainable landscaping and gardening by:

· Providing free native or organic vegetable and flower seeds
· Offering Seed Swap events at which community members can exchange seeds with one another
· Distributing educational information on seed saving

We will be establishing a permanent Seed Library site at the Midtown Global Market and we are looking for sites throughout Minnesota to act as host sites for the Seed Library. If you know of a church, business, school, or Little Free Library that might want to set aside a bit of space for seed sharing, please encourage them to get involved. We have templates for seed labels on our website and we will be able to offer a limited number of seed donations to get a location started. Email eva@doitgreen.org if you are interested in acting as a host site.

GREEN RESOURCES

DIG_KioskDo It Green! Minnesota’s Resource Kiosk at the Midtown Global Market is a great place to learn about living green. One of our most popular print resources is the Home Water Audit Checklist. The checklist highlights over 50 simple actions you can take in your kitchen, laundry room, bathroom and yard to reduce water use. Taken together, these actions can save you money and help to conserve Minnesota's water resources! For example...
  • Don’t rinse your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. This saves the planet 6,500 gallons of water per year and you $30 per year.
  • When boiling water for cooking, use a measuring cup to ensure you don't use more water than necessary to prepare the dish. Also, cover the pot to save energy too!
  • Wash fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap and then reuse it to water houseplants.
  • Use the garbage disposal sparingly. Compost your vegetable food waste instead and save gallons every time.
Pick up a copy at our kiosk the next time you’re at the Midtown Global Market or print one here.  Put it on your refrigerator and set a goal to make 10 or 12 changes from the checklist over the course of the summer!

Many of the Do It Green! Minnesota print resources are also available in Spanish.
