Today Is The Day.... Marking the biggest possible turn out of women and Latinos ever at the polls on Election Day – let’s not skip a beat! So you couldn't vote early or vote-by-mail, no problem, ask your employers if they will allow you to leave the office early today to make that mad dash to the polls! If not, most polling locations will be open till 8pm! There is still time to get to know the candidates and the issues at hand. Help Stop Violence Against Women by Voting! If you are a San Francisco resident - Here are 2 initiatives on the ballot you should be informed on! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Women’s issues have no party. Gender-based violence affects women in every country and neighborhood regardless of class, ethnicity, or political affiliation. Two initiatives on the San Francisco ballot are especially important for the safety of women and girls: Proposition B would create a long-term, stable revenue source that will provide approximately 6-7,000 units of desperately needed affordable housing in San Francisco. While this measure is not specific to women and girls, it will have a significant impact on women who are victims of abusive relationships and are seeking safety. Affordable housing is one of many critical components that will aid in the prevention of violence against women. Proposition K would decriminalize prostitution in San Francisco. It bars law enforcement against human traffickers. It also denies funds for harm reduction and exit programs for women trying to disengage from the sex trade. It has the potential to increase acts of violence and exploitation against women in this city.
