4. CCCU-Renewal Summit
The first ever “Renewal Summit” will be held Thursday, October 16 through Sunday,
October 19th at Eastern University!
This exciting event is hosted by Renewal: A Student Creation Care Network… This is a student-run network born out of the energy and vision of Christian students from both secular and Christian colleges, who care a whole lot about the whole of God’s creation. Follow this link for information on registration and the program.
The second entry titled ‘Code Green for Higher Education?’ begins with a brief discussion of Tom Friedman’s new book, Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution — and How It Can Renew America. Described as “Code Green”, Friedman describes a strategy for clean energy, energy efficiency, and conservation that would address global climate change and sustainability while also renewing the spirit of innovation and idealism in the U.S. Dr. Bardaglio follows with an exploration of what would “Code Green” mean for higher education? 7. New Book: The Green Collar Economy-How one solution can fix our two biggest problems by Van Jones "Provocative, personal, and inspirational, The Green Collar Economy is not a dire warning but rather a substantive and viable plan for solving the biggest issues facing the country--the failing economy and our devastated environment. From a distance, it appears that these two problems are separate, but when we look closer, the connection becomes unmistakable."
8. December 1 "Publications Futures Group" Meeting Invitation APPA and SCUP would like to invite the "publications" folks in your office to a meeting of the Publications Futures Group. This is intended as a futuring, brainstorming, and sharing session among higher education association publications staff about where "publications" are going in 3, 5, and 10 years. It'll be held at the APPA offices in Virginia - an easy Metro ride from downtown DC - and is sponsored by SCUP and APPA. Please share with those who do your "publishing" - whether journals, magazines, books, marketing collateral, or whatever. We plan to begin at about 11:30 with lunch, followed by an afternoon of discussion. Planning for Higher Education executive editor, Tom Longin, will moderate the discussion. RSVP to Terry Calhoun at terry.calhoun@scup.org.
