of the Higher Education Sustainability Act, introduced in
the House as HR 3637 by Representative Earl Blumenauer along with

the Senate as S 2444 by Senator Patty Murray along with Senators

5. ACUI: Web Conference - Sustainability Issues Facing the College Professional
The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) is hosting a web
conference entitled, "Sustainability Issues Facing the College Union
and Student Activities Professional." The online learning program aims
to provide valuable insights, practical examples, and standards for
anyone involved in college unions or student activities. Topics will
include understanding the American College & University Presidents'
Climate Commitment (ACUPCC); the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &
Rating System (STARS); practices for generating campus-wide support for
initiatives; fair trade purchasing as a sustainability initiative;
sustainability in campus food service; how to engage student leaders in
sustainable initiatives; and integrating sustainability education into
social events.
6. RecycleMania 2009
RecycleMania is a friendly competition and
benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to
promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Over a
10-week period, schools report recycling and trash data which are then
ranked according to who collects the largest amount of recyclables per
capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of
trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. The 2009
RecycleMania will feature a number of changes over past years including
a restructuring of the division system and the implementation of new
reporting standards for the official rankings. Schools will have the
choice of participating in the traditional rankings (Competition
Division) or opting for the less formal Benchmarking Division.
