Contents: 1. HEASC Update Reminder: HEASC Annual Meeting is December 2, 2008 from 12:30-4:30 pm The timing of the HEASC Annual Meeting is quite advantageous! Since the last digest a lot has changed. Our country went to the polls in record numbers and has elected a new President, the AASHE 2008 Biennial Conference held last week in Raleigh, NC drew more than 1700 participants, and the ACUPCC continues to grow as it approaches 600 institutions! We are in the midst of an exciting societal transition and the opportunity is ripe to scale up the movement toward a healthy, just, and sustainable society! Our meeting on December 2 will give us a chance to discuss this exciting opportunity while providing space to further develop HEASC's capacity to support and accelerate movement towards a sustainable society. We are expecting a great turnout for this meeting with 23 individuals confirmed to attend, representing 11 out the 15 member associations. For those members that have not confirmed your attendence please do so by emailing Steve Muzzy at smuzzy@secondnature.org Reminder: December 1 "Publications Futures Group" Meeting The "Publications Futures Group" meeting about the future of association publications will be held at APPA headquarters on December 1, from 11:30-4:30pm. 18 individuals representing 12 member associations have planned to attend. This meeting is intended as a futuring, brainstorming, and sharing session among higher education association publications staff about where "publications" are going in 3, 5, and 10 years. Moderating the discussion is Tom Longin, executive editor of Planning for Higher Education. If you would like to be part of this conversation please RSVP to Terry Calhoun at terry.calhoun@scup.org. 3. AASCU Sustainability Task Force On Saturday November 22nd AASCU will introduce its Task Force on Sustainability at its 2008 Annual Meeting. This important and informative Sustainability Summit will be used to help identify critical presidential concerns regarding the emerging focus on sustainability on campuses and in communities. The program will include plenary and highly interactive sessions and offers an opportunity to discover and compare what AASCU campuses are currently doing or planning to do. Presidential participation will be complemented by the involvement of state of the industry vendors who will provide resources for intelligent deliberations and decision-making. 4. AASHE Conference a Success! Many of us are still feeling the buzz from the AASHE 2008 conference and expo - the largest campus sustainability gathering ever, with over 1,700 registrants. The keynote speakers were stimulating, the sessions rich, and the level of engagement and optimism by the participants was a sight to behold. Attendees seemed to enjoy themselves immensely and were busy building networks. The movement is accelerating at breakneck speed - but education/action for sustainability is one of the few activities in society where we want exponential growth.
