Many in higher education are struggling to determine the right curricula, research, courses, and programs that will train students and faculty to confront the massive challenge of climate disruption and to have the marketable skills needed in a new clean, green economy. To help leaders in higher education meet this challenge, the ACUPCC and Second Nature have released Education for Climate Neutrality and Sustainability: Academic Guidance for ACUPCC Institutions.
The 2008 Annual Report of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment demonstrates major strides, ambitious plans, and concrete examples of the more than 600 universities and colleges participating in the ACUPCC.

This study will help you benchmark your own institution's green purchasing policies compared to other schools throughout the nation.

The Illinois Community College Sustainability Network (ICCSN), is helping the people of the State of Illinois  access the training and expertise needed to engage in the new energy economy by providing a network of sustainability centers at local community colleges across the state.

The goals of the ICCSN are to:

  • Collaborate to accelerate green jobs development.
  • Model energy conservation and demonstrating renewable energy.
  • Impact energy conservation by providing community education on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other sustainable technologies.
  • Expand to cover the entire state by including all 48 community colleges in the Network.
  • Provide a national leadership role in the new energy economy.

6. CCCU Update

The recipients of CCCU's Creation Care Mini-Grant program took part in a webinar on April 20th to explore the implementation of new programs on their respective campuses. Out of 24 CCCU campuses who applied for the creation care mini-grant, six campuses were selected and awarded up to $5000 each thanks to a grant that the CCCU received from the Creation Care Fund, which provides financial and technical support to Christian grassroots efforts to care for God's gracious gift of creation. The Creation Care Fund provides a new and strategic vehicle for supporting the grassroots of the Christian creation care movement and its unique efforts. More information on the creation care mini-grant program can be found here.
