JULY 2010 NEWSDUMPSTER
sick_ward
THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO PASS LOTS OF TIME IN ENGLAND, DON'T YOU THINK? WE THINK SO.

Maybe Stonehenge Would Have Helped.
We're now winding up our 2010 Wrong Side of the Road Tour of the United Kingdom and we have pictures to prove it. Our souvenirs so far include a comb, a pencil, two postcards, 160 bags of Typhoo Tea, 14x500mg Clarithromycin tablets and 21x500mg Amoxicillin capsules, the latter trinkets memorializing our acute bronchitis and laryngitis. Our holiday destinations included Torquay, on the Devon coast; Keswick, in the Lake District; Kettlewell, in the Yorkshire Dales; Eyam, in the Peak District and three trips to the hospital for acute bronchitis and laryngitis. Ken led the way with fever, gasping and aural hallucinations, but Rebecca made a good showing with lethargy, coughing and misery. It's all been great fun, except for having to cancel two shows, but, thanks to the polite doctors in Britain's National Health Service, we're on the roundabout to recovery. What's more, except for a nominal cost for the antibiotics, our medical treatment didn't cost a lousy shilling. According to our representatives in Congress, Americans aren't interested in an insurance-free, nationally-managed medical system, such as the one in the UK. After gaining some experience with NHS, we can totally see the shortcomings of this universal health care regime:

  • The seats in the waiting rooms could use more padding.

  • They make you pay for parking.

  • The rapid check-in process doesn't leave you much time to reconsider.

  • The sitting areas were woefully lacking in back issues of Golf Digest.

  • Deadbeat tourists/folk singers get to bum off the system.

  • The TV wasn't turned up loud enough.

  • Without a medical profit motive, the airwaves and billboards are barren of entertaining ads for the coolest heart medicine, children's hospitals or dialysis centers.

  • Hapless patients are denied their individual liberty of choosing an insurance company to ram itself between their health problem and the doctor's door.

  • The candy machine was out of Rolo.

Want to be Part of History? Sooner or Later, You Will Be.
We have practically all the songs ready for our next CD, which we'll start on posthaste. Never ones to shy away from ridiculous production ideas, we're looking for a few good instruments. If you have any of these items sitting around in your attic or dungeon and don't mind donating or selling them very cheaply to an interesting cause, namely Hungrytown, please let us know at info@hungrytown.net. You'll get a free advance copy of the next record, and if the instrument actually makes it to the finished product, you'll be credited as well. Sound like a deal? Not to us, either; nonetheless, in the spirit of interesting causes, here is our current wish list:

  • Wurlitzer Model 200 (or similar) electric piano

  • one or two good-quality conga drums

  • good-quality open-back or resonator banjo

  • spinet harpsichord (ok, this one's a long shot)

  • chimes

  • celesta
