APRIL 2010 NEWSDUMPSTER

HOT SPRINGS, INNER-SPRING MATTRESSES, SRINGING FROM A CROUCHED POSITION—WE ALL LOVE SPRING!

"Tucson" is Surprisingly Hard to Spell.
After ten weeks and 13,000 miles, we're delighted to be home in the hills among last year's unraked leaves. We posted the last of the photos from this trip online for your bemusement. We learn quite a lot on these tours, and thought we would share a few of our insights:

  • Remember Mayor McCheese? Well, New Mexico now has an official cheeseburger. Coincidence? Or perhaps something even more sinister.

  • It sometimes rains in southern California and pours from time to time. There has to be a song in there somewhere.

  • You can make a number bigger by adding more numbers.

  • It gets warmer as you drive south. OK, we knew that already.

  • Eating animals is environmentally shortsighted, unhealthy, unsustainable and often cruel and I plan to do something about it as soon as I finish this dolphin.

  • In the 1850s, the US Army brought in camels to use as pack animals in the southwestern desert, which turned out to be well suited to that climate. The experiment failed, however, probably because the stables were far from the baracks (they would walk a mile for a camel) and people died from lung cancer.

We're so Happy to be Home, We Could Just Leave.
One minute we were hugging the walls of our house as best we could, the next we were throat-deep into travel plans for our imminent tour of the UK, gulp, next month. We haven't toured there since 2004, so our English is a bit rusty. We'll be there until early July, with a show in the Netherlands at the end for posterity.
