 JUNE 2010 NEWSDUMPSTER
 | | AFTER A WHILE HERE, OUR ACCENTS START TO SOUND FUNNY TO US. |
|
Skipping Through the United Kingdom.
We're sweeping up after the first month of our 2010 Wrong Side of the Road Tour, and it's our pleasure to issue this Newsdumpster from fabulous Edinburgh, Scotland (oh look, we have photos, too, and more as yet unsnapped). Since the word "dumpster" doesn't really mean anything in the UK, we should let our many new subscribers know that your equivalent word is "skip," as in Newsskip, like, um, a large receptacle intended for rubbish in which recent information about Ken and Rebecca may be found. And it's all one word. So let's move on, then.
We have played many shows, and the fans have been terrific, especially during a recent heat wave, because many hotels don't have air conditioning. Furthermore, people who have come to our shows have been very appreciative and supportive, despite Ken's foaming. Special thanks are also due to the several hosts who have put us up and put up with us.
This is not a large country compared to, say, Texas; however, its diminutive size is offset by the beloved and ubiquitous roundabout, which prevent top speeds beyond third gear. We love them--they're a safe and artful way to manage intersections without the need for traffic lights (although some have them just for fun). The best part is that if you don't know where to exit, you can go around until you find one you like.
What is a tour without tourism? Tea without scones. Sticky Toffee Pudding without custard. Gerry without a Pacemaker. That's why we always have plenty of guide books and pamphlets to help us have fun in unfamiliar territory. We thought, however, that there might still be room for a few more to help in navigating this wondrous part of the world:- Learning to Appreciate Beers that Don't Suck.
