Cherry Blossom Soup

cherryblossomsmall.jpgI've been doing a morning visualization practice in which I invite my future self to visit me. As you might imagine, I think of my future self as kinda "having it all together." She is always dressed in fabulous clothes, rides a unicycle, and laughs a lot. She's much more easy-going than me and she seems ... quite wise.

One day when I was feeling particularly stuck in a rut, I sat down, closed my eyes, and called for her. I call her Poppy, like that zany character in the movie, Happy-Go-Lucky. Poppy came riding up on a bicycle built for two and patted the seat behind her, inviting me to jump on. Which I did. She started whistling some crazy tune and we rode for awhile on a paved path in the woods. Before I knew it, we had stopped beneath an amazing cherry blossom tree in full bloom.

I sat down on the ground, still feeling uncertain and stuck. Poppy started scooping handfuls of cherry blossoms off the ground and tossing them with abandon into the air around us, letting them float down like some soft magic snow. She looked at me and said, "What you need is some cherry blossom soup." I knew immediately what she meant. She was telling me that I needed to see life with new eyes. To invent wild possibilities. To play like a child. What Poppy was saying was that I needed to nourish myself with color and texture, with surprise and joy and whimsy.

That visualization lasted only a few minutes. But the idea of cherry blossom soup stuck with me. It's become a symbol for me of waking up into an extraordinary world of vitality. I've recently started a blog as a sort of storage container for things that help me come to life. It's named, of course, Cherry Blossom SoupI invite you to step into this world with me. You can check it out at http://blog.simplycelebrate.net.

Some of my recent entries have been about the 10/10 Practice, Cake Wrecks, a conversation that gives me hope for the world, and a video that makes me burst with joy every time I see it.

I'm curious how you feel about blogs. Do you subscribe to any/many? Do you bookmark some that you visit on a regular basis? Do you prefer receiving email newsletters like this one? I hope you'll want to subscribe to Cherry Blossom Soup. If you're inspired to, please write and tell me your bloggy kinds of thoughts; I'd love to hear!

A simple celebration:

Celebrate your favorite color.
Make today “green day” and dress all in hues of lime and forest. Eat green foods like broccoli and peas and salad. Savor the green-ness of nature. And let yourself go green with envy.
