All These Gifts

Dear Friends, Fans & Family...

Autumn is in full swing now in Colorado, with the aspen leaves turning brilliant gold, orange, and even red. Last weekend we sang for some friends’ wedding in a high altitude meadow half an hour above the town of Aspen. The weather was iffy all day, with dark rain clouds threatening to close in the entire afternoon. But the sun came out just in time for the ceremony, and played hide & week with the clouds afterwards as we sang our original tunes with the guests chatting and enjoying champagne in the meadow.
The parents of the bride (big fans) kept requesting “I Dreamed of Rain,” but we held off till the very last minute, because we are familiar with the strange ju ju that often happens when we sing this song. Especially when we’re in an outdoor setting. And, sure enough, just as JD finished the piano intro and we started into the first verse….”I dreamed of rain, and the rains came, soft and easy, sweet and clear”….we felt the first droplets fall. I know, crazy, right?  But this has happened over and over when we play this song. By the time we got to the words “and peace spread over the land,” a brilliant rainbow had appeared in the eastern sky. When we got to the third verse, it started raining in earnest, and everyone fled to the beautiful log cabin restaurant for the rest of the reception.  Perfect timing.

We have no idea how that happens, but it’s clear that the music has a life of its own. We just discovered this video of a middle school girls’ choir from South Africa singing our song.  For the story behind the writing of "I Dreamed of Rain," please visit the blog page on our website.
We have been hard at work in the studio, continuing to record songs for our upcoming Christmas/Holiday album. About a month ago we realized that we needed to come up with a title for the CD, and since we have photos from last winter with us holding armfuls of Christmas presents, the answer was obvious: “All These Gifts.”  It also speaks to how grateful we continue to be for all of you, and for the music that keeps coming through.
Here’s a rough mix of the title cut, as a preview. It’s just a fun little tune you can dance along to. More will be coming soon.  All These Gifts mp3

We plan to release the entire album November 20. You can pre-order as many copies of the CDs as you want, starting NOW. Just reply to this email with your request, and we will arrange for payment. Shipping is free if you order before Nov. 20. Thanks for staying tuned in the meantime.

Love from Jan & JD
