Dear Friends, Fans & Family...
Three Big Announcements:
1. We will be singing, playing, and speaking in the Seattle area from August 1 through August 10. Details on our calendar page.
2. No, it is not snowing in Colorado at the moment. But we are busy writing and recording new songs for our upcoming Christmas/Holiday CD, and this is helping us get in the mood. More about that as the process unfolds…..
3. We are offering FREE SHIPPING on all our music for the next week. If you’ve been putting off ordering your personal truckload of Jan & JD CDs, now’s the time to stock up. They make such perfect gifts for all occasions. (And, as we are quick to remind you...Christmas IS just around the corner.) Go to our website and enter this code for the special deal: WJV140730162243. This special ends on August 11.
Why this sudden burst of generosity on our part? Because of a dumb mistake we made last weekend as we packed our car for a very full Sunday of musical performances at Columbine Spiritual Center in Boulder, Colorado. For the first time EVER we left home without our usual stash of CDs and songbooks. We arrived at their beautiful facilities last Sunday morning, all prepared for 2 different musical messages, plus a big-deal concert that night, and discovered that we had nothing to sell. Big mistake. Offering our music for sale is one of the main ways we make a living.
There was a moment of intense marital and professional discord (it is always JD’s job to pack the car) when Jan actually resorted to screaming into her hand to release anger and outrage (a technique she learned from many weekend workshops in the ‘80’s.) Not something you often see in a church parking lot.
There followed a few moments of blame and borderline despair, a futile attempt to think of some way to make it right, and then a peaceful resignation. Because how on earth could our CDs be magically transported from our house to Boulder, a 4 hour drive, on a random Sunday morning? We let it go.
Then, we remembered a quote from our good friend, the poet Rumi, who suggests that we live our life as if it’s rigged in our favor. Because it is.
And Jan remembered that our good friend Beth, who lives 10 minutes from us in Old Snowmass, was planning to take her dog to a specialist vet at CSU a couple of hours north of Boulder that very same Sunday morning. We texted her madly during our sound check, and caught her just as she was driving past our house. She was happy to run up to our office and snag several bags of CDs. We arranged to meet her just outside the Kum & Go off the Longmont exit of I-25 later that afternoon on her way up to Ft. Collins. It was like the reverse of a sinister parking lot drug deal…..much hugging and gratitude, happy exchange of product, and a chance to pet sweet Stella the dog one more time.
Many people signed our email list that morning, and were happy to buy our CDs online from our website, especially now that we're offering free shipping. And we sold lots that night at the concert. We feel like Rumi's insight applies to everybody. May all our storms and murky mistakes end up with such fine silver linings.
Thanks, and please stay tuned…….
Love from Jan & JD
