Dear Friends, Fans & Family....
Don't you just love Groundhog Day? February 2, also knows as Candlemas, falls exactly halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. It's heartening to know that, at least weather-wise, we're all collectively headed in a good direction. Plus, if you've watched the movie as much as our family has, you can quote Bill Murray at will, which gives a certain comforting perspective to current events.
So....possibly Groundhog Day is more than just the tradition of looking to a rodent to predict the weather. Like, maybe we can all really change and evolve, now, with a sense of humor and discernment, making a good difference in the world.....without waiting lifetimes to figure things out.
I have always loved this quote from Thomas Banyacya Sr., speaker of the Wolf, Fox, and Coyote Clan, an Elder of the Hopi Nation: "It is time to speak your truth. Create your community. Be good to each other. Do not look outside yourself for a leader. Gather yourselves! Banish the word 'struggle' from your attitude and vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration .We are all about to go on a journey. We are the ones we have been waiting for!" (Click here for the complete poem.)
(This is Jan speaking now....from my personal experience.) In the days and weeks leading up to the presidential inauguration, I kept hearing the phrase "The peaceful transfer of power." I must admit that I felt a certain dread and depression at the thought, all things considered.
And that official governmental event did take place on January 20. But then the next day....Saturday, January 21....Look what happened: All the women showed up! And their husbands and brothers and friends. And all the kids, and the grandmothers, and everybody of every color and age and size and ethnicity and religion, and ALL of us. From what I understand, somewhere between 3 and 4 million people gathered to make their voices and visions known in cities all over the world.
And there was not one incident of violence, as far as I know. Not one arrest.
So then it hit me. THAT is the peaceful transfer of power! Wow. It's not about any leader at the top of the pyramid, authoritatively prescribing what should and should not happen to the rest of us. It's about each of us knowing that it's just us, each one showing up as ourselves, tuning into and embodying our highest Source, and then coming into the world with our gifts and talents blazing....organizing, supporting ourselves and each other, and then doing what we came here to do.
Here's an interview we did last week with our friends Sherry Hursey and Rick Cowling, the hosts and owners of TOTLe (Turn on the Light Entertainment). It talks more about this, in the context of our idea of the Heart of Harmony.
We will be in Tampa Florida for this year's Positive Music Awards starting February 21. We have each co-written songs that are up for awards. Stay tuned for results. And...There is still time to sign up for the Totally Cool Songwriting School, February 27. Check our Calendar for all the details of our Florida tour.
Enjoy your February!
Love from Jan & JD
