Preview of Song from "Better Angels"

Dear Friends, Fans & Family....

Happy New Year! Clean slate and fresh beginnings! Starting over again! What a relief.

JD and I are just a couple of weeks away from finishing up our new CD, which we are now calling "Better Angels," inspired by the Abraham Lincoln quote from his 1861 First Inaugural Address. The sentiment is now even more pertinent than ever....

It does seem like we're all in for some epic challenges this year, on so many levels....and we're confident that we're all up to the task. This is why JD and I are so excited about these inspiring new songs and the strong intention behind them.

Here's one of our favorites. "We Are Not Afraid of the Dark."  Please listen on a good sound system or high-end earbuds if you can.

This song started out as a strong and simple lyrical stand....claiming all of the light and all of the shadow as who we really are....and knowing that wherever we are, we're already home, celebrating full contrast, with divine love intelligence looking through our eyes.

We loved the initial musical feel of this song. And once we added Marcy Baruch on harmony vocals, Brent Rowan on guitars, and Christian Teele on drums, it really took off. All we needed was a choir of enthusiastic kids and adults at the end, to give the full effect of humanity marching together toward sanity, with our Better Angels.

But where could we possibly find such a ready-made soulful crowd of amateurs? Cheap or free?

On a sweet Sunday afternoon, a week before Christmas, all my very cute and earnest students and their families showed up for our yearly piano and singing recital. After an hour of fairly impressive kid songs and lots of great hor d'oeuvres, JD and I realized we had a captive audience.....who, with a little encouragement and coaching, could also double as a choir!

That's who you will hear in the final choruses. Ordinary magic, showing up as always, right on time.

We'll be sending you more songs in the coming weeks. Our official CD release date is Saturday, February 2, and we're celebrating with a special concert here in the Roaring Fork Valley at the Aspen Chapel. If you can't make it in person, we are hoping to do a live streaming event and/or a video.

Also....the Saturday before we will be doing a workshop, also at the Chapel, called "Embodying Your Authentic Voice." Big Fun. Please stay tuned for details about both events.

Hope you are staying warm and cozy. ( The temperature here was -7 this morning!)

Thanks and Love from Jan & JD
