Positive Music Awards and Onward to N. California

Dear Friends, Fans & Family....

JD and I just returned home from the Positive Music Awards in Tampa, where we soaked up some warm Florida sunshine (and saw some actual alligators and wild pigs) before returning to snowy Colorado. Seriously, alligators. It makes the bears and coyotes we sometimes encounter along our bike path at home seem warm and fuzzy.

Alligators

The Positive Music gathering is always like a big reunion for us because we get to hang out not only with all the sweetheart supporters of positive music, but with our dear friends and fellow songwriters, who are pretty much always traveling around doing what we do, but in opposite directions. So it's a big treat to find ourselves in the same place for a long weekend.

Some truly inspired tunes came out of this year's conference, including a powerful new song called "Home of the Brave," which JD wrote with Karen Drucker and David Roth. A video will be available soon which we hope will go viral, with your help.

In the meantime, here are the songs JD and I had a hand in writing for this year's awards. (Click on the song titles to listen.) Coming in first place in the Personal Transformation category was "Walking in the Right Direction," a kick-ass tune which JD co-wrote with our dear friend Harold Payne.

And I had a great time co-writing this very cool old-timey song "Homemade and Handed Down," with Roger and Carole Tomehave. (I knew that all those years of singing fiddle tunes and playing bad mandolin in our wonderfully eclectic bluegrassy country band back in the 70's would pay off eventually.)  JD and I love the roots-y flavor we recorded in our own studio here in Colorado. That's Roger singing lead, with me & JD on harmonies.

We should probably stick with just writing and recording songs. But when we got the invitation to contribute a video honoring the founders and organizers of empower Music & Arts (Sue K. Riley and Richard Mekdeci) for the coveted "Grace Note Award," we put together this silly little love offering. (JD admits that he is not a natural thespian, but he was happy with being in charge of the applause.) There were so many videos this year that much of our original recording had to be edited out.  This meant that JD ended up on the cutting room floor.  Here is the original un-cut director's version.

Happy Almost Spring to all of you!

Love from Jan & JD
