The Wonder of Woolworths

Woolworths Ladybird Fashion Presentation at Delfina, January 2008

We were really pleased to work with a new client in January - High Street chain Woolworths. The White Room at Delfina, near London Bridge was used to stage an in-house presentation of the Ladybird fashion range.

We provided the stage, set, lighting and sound for the presentation - with everything finished in a clean white - an appropriate backdrop for the excited kids who showcased the ladybird range.

DIY Stage

DIY Show 2008 for Brintex at Earls Court 2, January 2008

Following a very well-received set design at last year's show, the only change required the feature stage this year was to fit it into a new footprint. The presentation space simulates a partly constructed house, complete with brickwork and timber. A range of demonstrations take place within the space to show off a myriad of DIY products.

The setup required the full treatment of sound, lighting, projection and live video coverage - all provided from our in-house stock.

We also designed a 'New Products Zone' - an exhibition area for displaying more DIY products.

You can read more about it by clicking the link below.

Wedding Heaven

National Wedding Show at Olympia for Ocean Media, February 2008

Following a short break, we have won back the contract to supply the National Wedding Show - and this time it was bigger and better than ever, with the requirement to design and build three 'zones'.

The main Catwalk was finished in a stylish 'black leather' panels and a thick pile black carpet, all lit from an extensive 18m lighting grid, plus sound and plasma displays.

The Wedding Theatre was a feature we designed and built to house inspirational presenations, demonstrations and makeovers by the likes of Kate Smallwood of Wedding Magazine and Caryn Franklin of the Clotheshow.

The Brides White Zone - a brand new stage area - was designed to showcase gowns from top wedding dress designers, with a round stage for interviews flanked by eight podiums each with a dressed mannequins displaying the designer's range.

Underwear on Show

Lingerie and Swimwear Spring Show at Harrogate Conference Centre, February 2008

February means it's time for another trip to the town that should be by the sea - Harrogate - for the latest edition of the Lingerie and Swimwear show.

It means a week of Gravely’s Fish and Chips and our latest design to show off the best in underwear!

This consisted of two large custom designed staircases curving from a top central entrance, where the models could pose for a time allowing the garments to be properly admired thus giving the show a more intimate and stylish feel. The whole set was finished in white giving a clean blank canvas for the clothing to be displayed.

Congo Blue Design provided all the designs, production management and crew for the show.

Competitive Designs for Moda

Moda Spring '08 - Trade Buying Event at the NEC - February 2008

For this season's Moda Show we decided to encourage a bit of internal competition to see who at Congo Blue could come up with the best stage design for the show. Each of us came up with a concept and presented them to the client.

The winning design (I'm sorry to say it was mine!) consisted of a simple set of four, 4 metre high rotating doors, powered by our stock of Robe Stage Banners. One side of each banner was finished in white, while the reverse was covered in mirrored Plexiglass.

This allowed multiple states to be programmed to give a different look for each scene as each door could open separately or continually rotate.

Sounds Good

Congo Blue Boost Audio Inventory

Each month we like to showcase a piece of new gear we've acquired at Congo Blue Design. The picture (left) shows Andy with the latest additions to our sound reinforcement equipment.

The additions to the inventory are based around HK speakers with Tanoy subs, QSC amplification and an Allen & Heath mixing console (plus a myriad of mics and accessories).

This kit, added to our extensive range of German Audio Engineering (GAE) systems means we can now handle something like six events simultaneously and we can also provide better support for live music.
