waldo-x-wide-communityElusive Book Character Creates Summertime Fun
to Support the Shop Local Movement.

Leavenworth -- Where''s Waldo?
In Leavenworth, of course.  The famous children’s book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting twenty-five different local businesses throughout our community this July. Those who spot him can win prizes, including stickers, book coupons and more. From A Book For All Seasons at 703 Hwy 2 to The Wood Shop at 721 Front St and many places in between, Waldo figures will be well-hidden in local business establishments. Find Waldo is a great summer vacation activity, and a wonderful way for residents to support local business and the Shop Local movement.
Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Leavenworth!” passport with the names of all the participating businesses, and get their passport stamped or signed for each Waldo they spot. The first 100 Waldo seekers to get their passports stamped or signed at ten or more sites can bring their passports back to A Book For All Seasons to collect prizes. Collecting store stamps or signatures at twenty or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers to entry in a grand prize drawing on July 31, with the top prize being a 6-volume deluxe set of Waldo books.

The Gettysburg Address: A Graphic Adaptation

FC9780061969768By Jonathan Hennessey,  Aaron McConnell

Leavenworth area native, Aaron McConnell, handles the wonderful illustrations in this new historical graphic novel.
The Gettysburg Address: A Graphic Adaptation is a full-color illustrated look at Abraham Lincoln's most famous speech, the bloody battle of the Civil War that prompted it, and how they led to a defining point in the history of America. Most of us can recall "Four score and seven years ago," but much of what we know about Abraham Lincoln's oration has been forgotten after high school. Using Lincoln's words as a keystone, and drawing from first-person accounts, The Gettysburg Address shows us the events through the eyes of those who lived through the events of the War, from soldiers to slaves. Writer Jonathan Hennessey and illustrator Aaron McConnell illuminate history with vibrant, detailed graphics and captions that deliver a fresh understanding of this vital speech.
