Sowebo Arts Summer Members Show at the Adler Gallery. Since the events of September 11, 2001, there have been too many cases and stories from around the country wherein photographers have been detained, harrassed, or otherwise put in troubling situations. These situations have arisen from multiple factors, such as a lack of proper training, a misunderstanding of public / private property and photography rights, or an overbearing and reactionary police or authority stance. I am working to create a website for the sharing of these infringements on photographer's rights, and an infosource for legal assistance and advice on the issue. If you know any photographers, amateur, pro, hobbyist, family member, that have encountered problems, please send them my way and invite them to share their stories with others who have done the same. The website will be online within a month or two. The site will be at http://www.photographyrights.com. For now, an excellent one-page guide to photographer's rights can be found here: http://www.krages.com/phoright.htm

Matt's Photo Tip for August Get Out and Shoot! Sometimes, as we work toward becoming better photographers, we spend too much time with our current work, and forget that production is necessary to continue to improve. I recently got out to do some shooting for the first time in a while, and it is definitely a refreshing feeling. So, get out there and shoot! Pick a subject, a theme, or a city, and spend an hour, a day, or longer, capturing images.
Watch the website for news on workshops and one-on-one lessons! Send me a note if you are interested.
