Dear Knitters and Stitchers,

I love summer. I remember taking the dogs outside this past cold and blustery winter thinking how neat it is to go outside with Duncan and Tessa in the summer and feel the warm breezes blowing wihile looking at the beautiful stars above the mountains.
Now those hot sunny days of summer are here and all I can think is "Thank God for my wonderful life." What could be better then hanging out at a shop filled with beautiful fibers and projects, great customers and staff, two fuzzy puppy dogs and time to knit and stitch. YES!!!! I did say time to knit and stitch. Summer is one of my favorite times for projects. I take a knitting project with me everywhere I go. Hoseback riding, hiking, picnicing, street fairs, roads trips. The list of possible opportunities for project time grows dramatically in the summer expecially with all of that extra daylight. It just seem like there isn't any time for your love of fiber and crafts.
There is always a way to make time for what we love. Time with family and friends, gardening, travel, outdoor activities and just hanging out is what summer is all about. The shop is a great place to bring visiting guests. They can hang out in the courtyard and check out the trout or grab a beverage in the restraunt's bar. All while you and your girlfirends check out what The Stitchin' Den is suggesting for great summertime projects or helping you get ready for the gift giving season.
A lot of new fibers, books and supplies have arrived for summer. Some are even on sale now. Stop in and check out what is new and say hi to Liz Staedler. Liz is the newest additon to the staff at The Stitchin' Den.
Here's to a great summer.

Sticks and Strings in The Rockies
It is summertime in the Rockies and it is hot, hot, hot!!!!! Sticks and Strings is the social group of knitters, crocheters, stitchers and all who love fibers and color who meet twice a month at The Stitchin' Den. Join us on the second and fourth Monday of every month from 5PM - 7PM at the shop. We have a lot of fun visiting, sharing projects and ideas, solving problems and muching on great snacks.

Now that summer is here, we are meeting outside by the trout pond to enjoy the cool shade of the courtyard. Vega (the resturant in the courtyard shops) has been great helping us get organized and providing wait staff to serve us great Tapas and beverages off their delicious menu.

Come for the evening or stay a few minutes. It doesn't matter. Are you visiting for the day, weekend or summer? Just come. Enjoy stitching and knitting in the mountains.

Image Wash Clothes for Louisiana

The Stitchin' Den's customers are great when it comes to helping when asked. It is appearant by the generous donations of hats and scarves for children in Nepal, yarn for the senior center and girl scouts of Estes Park, pink scarves and hats for Susan G. Koeman foundation for Breast Cancer research, needles and fibers for Warm The World and the list goes on.

Now there is a need right here in the United States. Louisiana is battling the massive oil spill along their beautiful Golf Coast and are bathing animals caught in the spill with wash cloths.

These wash cloths can only be used once and then discarded. They need alot of cotton wash cloths.

If you want to help, bring your knitted or crocheted cotton wash cloths to The Stitchin' Den. They need to be 10" by 10", all cotton and knitted or crocheted on a US10 needle. St. Bartholomew's Church in Estes Park is sponsoring this drive for donations. There is also a bucket in the entry of St. Barts where you can put your donations.

If you need to purchase supplies for your wash cloths at The Stitchin' Den, just mention what you are doing and you will receive 10% off.

Quote

This month, instead of a quote to think about, I am sharing Erma Bombeck's words written after she found out she was dying from cancer.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER - by Erma Bombeck

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle..
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, 'Later... Now go get washed up for dinner.' There would have been more 'I love you's' More 'I'm sorry's.'
But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute.look at it and really see it . live it and never give it back. STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!
Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what

Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us

Shop Hours

ImageWe all have days that are more challenging than others. When this happens to me I can't always back away and regroup. What I can do and actually do is look at pictures in my office of times when there was peace in my life. This is a picture I took while riding the horse I lease from the stable at Wild Basin and Elkhorn Stables. I hope you can see her ears at the bottom of the picture. When I am riding alone in the mountains (with my sock project in my saddle bags just in case) I am truely at peace and totally content. I have my most creative moments when I am out on Cowboy or R-Tech enjoying the beautiful flowers and scenery.
