Hangar One Chipotle Vodka (Batch #2) Released!
For those of you who missed or are missing the last batch of the Alchemist Series Vodka Chipotle, it's back and now available for tasting and purchase at the distillery for $40 a bottle (750ml)!
Lance explains the idea and process:
"The chipotle was born of a need for vodka truly worthy of one of my favorite cocktails, the Bloody Mary. Because a Bloody Mary is a meal as well as a cocktail, it needs a vodka of real substance. The mass produced pepper vodkas could never fit the bill because the people that make them think that the only quality a pepper has is heat. With all this in mind, we set out to make a vodka that had all of the characteristics of great peppers.
"We start with jalapeños and Fresno chili peppers. These are chopped and added to high proof vodka. After sitting like this for several days, the peppers and alcohol are added to the still to create a base that has the sweetness and vegetal qualities that help make up the identity of a pepper. We do a separate infusion and distillation of smoked peppers, both jalapeño and bell. To get the heat balance just right, a judicious amount of habañero infusion is added. The whole mess should have the sweetness and substance of a nicely smoked meat, the vegetal qualities of a fresh pepper and just the right amount of heat."
The chipotle vodka opens with the sweet hardwood smoke aroma. A bit deeper into the glass, layers of spice and raisin bloom. On the palate, the sweetness of the bell peppers is the first hit, followed by waves of heat and spice.

Due to the volatile combination of song choice (“Master of Puppets” by Metalica) and a little too much enthusiasm at Karaoke, our Sunday tour guide has lost the ability to speak for a few days. Tours will resume normally next week
