Plant the future!

Get outside, develop skills, meet some amazing people

Friends of Trees Crew Leaders are trained volunteer leads who are SW_WA_CL 5responsible for leading small groups of volunteers during our Saturday planting events. Crew Leaders are some of our most important volunteers and as we grow, our need for Crew Leaders grows.

Crew Leaders demonstrate how to plant trees properly while maintaining a fun, safe, and educational environment at our planting events. This is a dynamic and social leadership role that is great for people wanting to learn more about tree health, get their hands dirty outdoors, and gain or improve group leadership skills. You will make a difference while spending time with some of the best people around!

Training is free and no prior planting experience is necessary. Because of the nature of this role, we suggest volunteers be aged 16+. All Crew Leaders receive a free "Tree Team" t-shirt! And a world of thanks.

We are hosting multiple Crew Leader trainings Saturdays this fall—the first training is October 22. Registration is required, click here for more information and to register for a Portland or SW Washington training; click here for Salem information and training registration.

Get to know the Green Space Program

Jackson Bottom 101015 13 2

50,000+ native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants were added to 41 natural areas last season thanks to Friends of Trees' Green Space Program. Now that's some greenery.

The Green Space program is a perfect complement to our Neighborhood Trees Program. While Neighborhood Trees focuses on our urban canopy through street and yard trees, the Green Space program focuses on the restoration of sensitive natural areas, planting hundreds of trees and native plants at each planting event.

Volunteering for a Green Space planting is a great way to explore some of our region's natural areas while contributing to watershed health and habitat restoration. It's also a great opportunity for groups to volunteer together. Interested? Check out the Green Space Planting Calendar (Green Space plantings are in green) and then visit our Group Registration Form. See you out there!
