Can You Hear Me Now?

GF08.VerizonLogoWeb.jpg

We are pleased to announce that Verizon Wireless will be providing a temporary cell phone booster at Grey Fox. Verizon customers should have fully functioning cell phones all over the Walsh Farm during the festival. Other carriers may or may not work there. If you don't have Verizon and need to make a call, pay phones will be located near the Info Booth.

Grey Fox: Not Just Your Average Bluegrass Festival!

Yes, there's stellar bluegrass music at Grey Fox. It's the cornerstone of the festival for sure. But there really is something for every member of the family—such as:

Upscale Camp Cooking: Check out the recipes serial griller, cookbook author and banjo player Jim Tarantino will be demonstrating at the Slow Jam Tent  from noon to 1pm on Thurs, Fri and Sat.

Morning Yoga: Wake up and feel your best throughout each day by joining certified yogo instructor Lucy Weberling's Morning Stretch class at the Dance Tent. It's relaxing and envigorating with live accompaniment by Kindling Stone.

IBMA Seminars for Bands: Participate in two free seminars on Fri and Sat morning designed to "Take Your Band to the Next Level." Expert panalists will give tips to regional bands.

Eco-Friendly Campsite Award: This year's best campsite award will go to the camp that is the most space-saving and earth friendly. Every campsite is automatically entered. Prize is a pair of tickets to Grey Fox 2009.

Discounts & Scholarships for Pete Wernick's Jam Camp!

This just in from Dr. Banjo himself: "The camp is shaping up well, and we're looking forward to our new air-conditioned venue as well as being assisted again by the now-married Ira Gitlin."

To fill in some vacancies, Pete's ready to "deep discount" the camp for bass players -- tuition for them is now just $100 for the 3 days. He will also offer "need-based" scholarship help to any mandolin, fiddle, or dobro player for whom the tuition cost makes it hard to attend.

This is a wonderful opportunity for learning how to jam with others—and there's no one better to teach you how! Jam Camp runs Tuesday through Thursday, July 15-17 at the Durham-Oak Hill Fire Hall, across from the entrance to Grey Fox, with a jam camp performance on the Main Stage Thursday at 5pm. Join the fun! www.drbanjo.com

Bluegrass Academy for Kids Class Update

Fiddle and guitar classes are full for the 2008 Bluegrass Academy for Kids, but we still have room for a few mandolin, banjo and bass students. Hop on over to our BGA pages and find out more or register a child.

Day Tickets on sale now: Main Stage music Thursday: 2:00 pm-midnight; Friday and Saturday: 11:00am-1:00am; Sunday: 10:30am to 4:00pm. We accept Visa, MasterCard & Discover. Order tickets right now!

Schedule Available on Web Now!

We know you've been chomping at the bit to find out who's playing when. Finally, we can announce the Main Stage, Masters Stage, Dance Pavilion and Family Stage schedules now. Enjoy! We'll add Grass Roots and Slow Jam schedules shortly, so check back in a few days. For a glance at who'll be with us and links to their websites, hop on over to our Artists Page.

Two More Great Artists Just Added!

Two outstanding musicians have just been added to the Masters and Grass Roots Workshops: Five-time IBMA Bassist of the Year, Mike Bub will be with us on Saturday. Catch him at the Masters  Bass workshop with seven-time IBMA Bass Player of the Year, Missy Raines. He'll also be giving a hands-on bass workshop at the Grass Roots Learning Tent on Saturday. And 16-year-old phenom Sarah Jarosz from Austin, TX will be amazing us with her music all weekend — including a mandolin workshop with David Grisman and Ronnie McCoury on Friday. Pics, YouTube and lots of music on Sarah's Jarosz' MySpace

Post Office Creates Limited Edition Mail Cancellation Stamp for Grey Fox!

GF08.USPSstampWeb.jpgTo welcome Grey Fox to the area, the Oak Hill Post Office has created a special stamp to hand-cancel letters, post cards and packages mailed from Oak Hill during the festival. They will be set up at the festival (near the Information Booth) with full mailing capabilities for letters and packages. You'll be able to mail "cool stuff" back home or to friends and family. Be sure to stop by and say hello and thank them for thinking of us. Better yet, buy some CDs or tee shirts and surprise someone back home with a one-time-only personalized package from Grey Fox.

Arrival, Camping and Seating Procedures

Even though this appeared in our last e-newsletter, it bears repeating as there are new subscribers and you all need to know this stuff:

All camping at the Wash Farm is flat and green. There's plenty of room for everyone and no campsite is better than another. And the music doesn't start until Thursday afternoon! Still, we expect a lot of traffic on Wednesday morning.

Why get there early only to sit and wait in your car?
Come a little later and enjoy the journey

OPENING DAY ARRIVAL PROCEDURES  (for Wed, July 16)
• Camping gates will open Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at noon.
• We will begin lining campers up on site on Wednesday
at 9 a.m., not before.
• Do not arrive before 9 a.m. You will not be permitted onto the site.
• Local police will not permit cars to park along public roads. Plan accordingly.

GETTING THERE
For door-to-door directions use 30 County Route 22, Oak Hill, NY 12460 as your destination. Select Greene County if prompted.

WANT TO CAMP WITH FRIENDS? TRY THIS ON FOR SIZE.
• We recommend that you time your arrival, meet up somewhere and come in together. An ideal place to meet is at the Milk Run on NY 145, East Durham, just one mile from festival site. The Milk Run (gas/grocery/restaurant) has a very large parking lot. And it's a great place to pick up any last minute needs. Here's a map.

CAMPING ETIQUETTE
• No roping off of large areas in the campground.
• Tent camping spaces can be up to 20 x 25 feet including your vehicle.
• Campers may save two campsites in addition to their own (a total of 20x75 feet).
• Space may be saved until the music begins on Thursday (2 pm). Our staff will
begin filling in unused space at that time.

• Whenever possible, park vehicles in the car corral to maximize camping space.       (See Car Corral section below. You can win BIG!)
RVs/Campers planning to use their generators must camp in the RV area
(location on artist's rendition of camping map).
Other RVs may camp in general campground.

Volunteers must remain in Staff Camping until 6 pm Wednesday. Ticket buyers may camp with volunteers in Volunteer Camping if they with wish.

MAIN STAGE SEATING ETIQUETTE
• Seating in the Main Stage Area is on a first come, first served basis. You may leave your seats in place all weekend, but it's the Grey Fox Way to allow people to sit in your seats while you're gone. So if you come back and someone's in your seat, don't be surprised. They'll get up and leave and you might just make a new friend or two!
• Seating from the front row to the Sound Booth will be on low backed beach style
chairs or blankets only. If you can roll a basketball under your chair, it’s too high.
We will have basketballs and won't be afraid to use them. <g>

• Handicapped seating will be a tented area to the right front of the Main Stage.
• From the sound booth back is open seating.

• Ground tarps & blankets used to save seats may not be larger than 6x8 feet.
• Sunbrellas and sunshades will be permitted along the top perimeter of the seating
   area only.
• No smoking in the Main Stage amphitheater, food or other public gathering
   spaces.

• To the left of the stage, there will be an area for folks who wish to dance 'n groove
   to the music.

Volunteers may not place chairs in the Main Stage area until 3 pm.

Car Corral Makes Camping Safer & More Spacious

We want to encourage full festival campers to park in the Car Corral, especially if you're planning on moving your vehicle during the festival and if you have extra vehicles that you don't need at your camp. At the Walsh Farm, the Car Corral will be just a short walk from general camping, so you will be able to access it easily.

For each vehicle parked in the Car Corral, you will be eligible to win nifty prizes all weekend long, such as CDs, hats, tee shirts, and the grand prize of a full festival ticket to Grey Fox 2009. Someone's going to win. It might as well be you!

Need a Room?

Camping not your thing? For those of you who want a real bed, there are dozens of hotels, motels, B&Bs, resorts plus full-service campgrounds nearby. Browse our lodging pages, log onto Greene County Tourism or call them at 800-355-CATS. Ask for a 2008 travel guide & tell them you’re coming to Grey Fox!

Explore Greene County!

Nestled between the Hudson River Valley and reaching into the Catskill Mountains, Greene County is the perfect getaway. Explore rivers, waterfalls, historic sites and museums. Take the kids to a lighthouse or nearby water park. Enjoy the ski villages at Windham and Hunter Mountain. Browse thru farmers markets or hunt for antiques and collectibles. Check out things to do in Greene County before and after Grey Fox.
