Picture of the Month
Plaza del Toros, Barcelona

Bullfighting still takes place in Spain, even if it isn’t broadcast here on American television (Wide World of Sports?) like it was when I was a kid. Disclosure: We’re all vegetarians in my family and, as one might imagine, not big fans of this sport. So while I had no interest in buying a ticket to a bullfight, and certainly no interest in taking our kids Jordan and Tamar to see one, I wasn’t beyond touring one of the bullfighting arenas during the off hours.

New York
"Shooting in New York was eerie," Jesse said. "I grew up in Manhattan and found myself re-taking pictures I had taken 35 years ago as a kid," Jesse said referring specifically to pictures of the Atlas statue in Rockefeller Center. Jesse, who often talks about the need for photographer to, "get past the moment of awe," said that in New York he had to, "get past the moment of familiarity." Jesse spent nearly three decades roaming New York streets and so, he said, he has to remember to see the pictures and stories there that are so easy for him to walk past. "Familiarity breeds, well, complacency," Jesse said. That said, he calls his time back in New York "terrific" and he is already planning to return for a week or more this summer.

NYT Hails Design of New Restaurant
using Jesse's Photography
Granted it's a restaurant review, and granted most of the article focuses on, as it should, the food. But forgive us if our favorite two words in the article are "strikingly beautiful." You can read the article (and see the bottom of Jesse's photography) in the New York Times article.
