Safari Spook-Tacular Weekend

baby-hornbill-rotate-small 4We named our first southern ground hornbill Teri Dactyl. We are not sure just yet if Teri is a male or female. Teri is around 5 months old now and doing very well. She was hatched on the 17th of April. Her eyes began to open on day 21 and she began walking on her own on day 85 which is right on target as birds like her, in the wild, don’t leave their nest cavity until they are between 80 and 90 days old.

We are currently raising our 2nd Southern Ground Hornbill. It is about a month old now. Just like we did with Teri, we have nicknamed this one Bobblehead. It  seems to be very strong and has an amazing appetite. Our Junior Keepers have done a wonderful job helping to care for both southern ground hornbill chicks.
