Gobi March 2010

Sahara Race 2010
The next recce to Egypt to scout the course and campsites will happen in just a few days. Having seen some of the initial pictures from the Valley of the Whales, this year's Sahara Race is going to be breathtaking.
Dave Annandale of the United Kingdom, along with his brother Steve, also of the United Kingdom, will be competing in the Sahara Race 2010 -- upon completion, Dave will become a member of the 4 Deserts Club. Click here to see the other members of this exclusive Club.

There's loads of activity on the race blogs for the Atacama Crossing this year. Read how people's preparations are going here. A record number of competitors will be competing in the Atacama Crossing including several who hope to complete the 4 Deserts Grand Slam (completing all 4 Deserts in one calendar year). See the press release here for the 4 Deserts Grand Slam contenders. Multiple film crews will be onsite to document the unfolding drama. The competition at this year's event is stiff! We will see Ryan Sandes, champion of the Gobi March 2008 and the Sahara Race 2008 (Ryan also hopes to become the first in the world to win all 4 Deserts), as well as Eric LaHaie champion of the Gobi March 2009, and Sean Abbott who finished third in that race competing against each other. 4 Deserts Grand Slam
Paul Liebenberg of South Africa (left) was the first in the world to complete the 4 Deserts Grand Slam (finishing all 4 Deserts in one calendar year), followed closely by the Ultramarathon Man, Dean Karnazes of the United States (right). Multiple competitors will be trying to accomplish this in 2010.

RacingThePlanet Alumni News
Gordon Oldham, veteran of four RacingThePlanet events, has named 2010 as his "Year of Adventure" and he plans to compete in RacingThePlanet: Australia, RacingThePlanet 100 and The Last Desert in Antarctica. Nick Ashley-Cooper, who has completed both the Sahara Race 2008 and Namibia 2009 has suffered a nasty spill from his horse, but will make a full recovery. We wish him a speedy one so that we can see him back in the desert as soon as possible.
Ted Hodgkinson, veteran of the Gobi March 2008 and Namibia 2009 who is racing in Australia this year, raised US$60,000 on 15 January for The David Seldrick Wildlife Trust here in Hong Kong.
