Sahara Race 2010

The Sahara Race is drawing ever closer, with competitors narrowing down their gear choices and ramping up the training.  A few facts about the Sahara Race 2010:

  • Sign up to receive lives updates from the field, click here.
  • Congratulations to Jack Denness of the UK who has just successfully completed the Badwater for the twelth time at 75 years old. We're really looking forward to seeing him at the Sahara Race again --  click here to see the field.
  • Popular Japanese model Anna Umemiya  will be taking part in the Sahara Race 2010.
  • We're really excited about the new course location this year. Competitors will be the first to race through the Valley of the Whales. To check out the photos from the recce, click here.
  • Thirty-six countries are represented by competitors registered to take part in the Sahara Race 2010 -- read a feature about some of them by clicking here.

RacingThePlanet will once again be supporting Operation Smile at the race. US$500,000 has been raised through RacingThePlanet for Operation Smile since the 4 Deserts was founded. The inaugural Taklamakan Ultramarathon takes place this month on 20 August. The field is strong with RacingThePlanet's Eric LaHaie going head to head with The North Face's Yun Yanqiao at the top of the field. To read the latest news on the Takalamakan Ultramarathon, click here.

  • Jordan has been chosen as the location of RacingThePlanet's roving race in 2012. The ancient kingdom boasts some amazing historical and geographical landmarks including a great Wonder of the World, Petra.
  • Eric LaHaie will be leading a training camp for current and potential competitors in Hong Kong at the end of this month. Stay tuned for more in other regions of the world.
  • There's now an Outlet Store online in the RacingThePlanet store where you can buy apparel from previous races. Check it out here.
  • The Showroom in Hong Kong will be expanding soon with the acquisition of new space in Sheung Wan.
  • We welcome two new members of staff: Alina Brown (US) to the events team and Erin Bowland (Australia) to the store team.

  • TIME magazine has named the 4 Deserts as the leading endurance footrace in the world for the second year running. The endurance competitons that were placed ahead of the 4 Deserts are 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Tour de France, the Dakar Rally, the Iditarod, and the Cannonball Run. To see the full list, click here.
