A Message From Our President

Dear JCRC-NY Friends and Supporters:

As the fall season begins, we proudly share some of JCRC-NY's  accomplishments over the summer:
All of these activities displayed innovation, influence and impact.  They vividly demonstrate how JCRC-NY’s core mission of uniting New York’s diverse communities helps to combat anti-Semitism and ultimately strengthens the Jewish community.  As we enter a new year on the Jewish calendar and begin the observance of the High Holy days, we look forward to even more success stories.  Thank you for your continued support!

Please accept my best wishes for a Shana Tova U’Metukah – a good and sweet year!

Call to Action for Charlottesville:
New Yorkers United Against Hate

After August's horrific public demonstrations of bigotry and hate in Charlottesville, Virginia, JCRC-NY issued a Call to Action. JCRC-NY provided the platform for concerned New Yorkers to stand together in denouncing hate and make their voices heard.

The Call to Action was signed by hundreds of New Yorkers.  This included elected officials and leaders from Jewish and other faith and ethnic communities, representing the broad diversity of New York.

On August 20th, JCRC-NY's inaugural Hamptons event was held at the Westhampton Beach home of JCRC-NY Board and Executive Committee Member Jerry Levin and his wife Carol.

CEO Michael Miller moderated an off-the-record conversation with former NYPD Commissioner and counter-terrorism expert Ray Kelly on the threat of global and domestic terrorism and police tactics. The topics were particularly relevant in light of the recent events in Charlottesville and Barcelona.

Mission to Israel:
Ethnic and Faith Leaders
In August, JCRC-NY led another successful mission to Israel of ethnic and faith leaders from the NY metropolitan area. The group traveled north to the Golan Heights overlooking the border with Syria and south to Sderot on the border with Gaza, with much quality time in Jerusalem and visits to the holy sites.

Missions provide participants with first-hand knowledge of and experiences with the complex reality of the State of Israel.

Missions also enable participants to convey to other New Yorkers the challenges Israel faces as it seeks to achieve a lasting peace with its neighbors.

JCRC-NY Launches
"Roger Waters is #OutOfTune with NY" Campaign
On September 5th, JCRC-NY launched a digital campaign to call upon New Yorkers to sign a statement that Roger Waters is Out of Tune with New York, raising awareness of his use of anti-Semitic imagery, anti-Israel messaging, and advocacy for the BDS movement against Israel.

Thousands of people signed the statement, and the campaign was featured in media outlets including The Jewish Week and Newsday.
