Rock for Dimes eNewsletter
Welcome: Summer nights are meant to be remembered!

We hope your summer has been filled with all your most favourite things: beaches, BBQs, road trips, festivals, camping, cottages, but most of all great music! This is why we’d like to invite you to spend a memorable evening with other exceptional people at one of our yearly Rock for Dimes events! Not only are they a blast, but they are also the reason we’re able to raise a great amount of funds and awareness. Speaking of rocking out, make sure not to miss Spectra’s hot new single, as well as highlights from previous 2016 RFD concerts and listings for upcoming events.

Spotlight on Spectra: I'm The Lucky One
Spectra is a non-profit organization that celebrates diversity in music. They hosted a Spectra Talent Contest and chose 13 singers, along with professional artists Bob Hallett (Great Big Sea) and Valdy, to record “I’m The Lucky One”.

“From my experience, a fair number of people with disabilities experience isolation, which can lead to low self-esteem. I wanted to write a song that celebrates the beauty and authenticity I’ve witnessed firsthand in this community,” said Ralph Hamelmann, RACA Executive Director and song co-writer. The song is about an able-bodied person falling in love with someone with a disability.

Spectra's Greatest HitsThe single can be found on Spectra's Greatest Hits album, whose proceeds are being donated to five charities, including March of Dimes Canada. It’s also part of Spectra’s social media campaign #disabilitiesaresexy, which aims to end the stigma around impairments and is supported by Margaret Trudeau.

 Rock For Dimes Toronto 2016
Rock for Dimes Toronto decided to rock the doors off a different venue this year. The MOD Club Theatre was a packed house on April 29, 2016. Four incredible bands – Oui B. Jamon, The Fission Katz, The SUVs and The Good Alibis – battled it out in front of the enthusiastic audience members and judges.

The judge panel consisted of musicians Morgan Cameron Ross, Alan Snoddy and Dave Barrett. As well as, music therapist Gloria Lipski and founder of London’s Moving Forward Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre, Mike Mulligan. The host of the night was BOOM 97.3’s Maie Pauts.

The Good Alibis

All four bands were a knockout, but The Good Alibis took home the win! This event raised a whopping $21,000, which will go to supporting people with disabilities. Specifically, those enrolled in the March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education® program. To date, Rock for Dimes Toronto has raised $378,000!
