Rock for Dimes in Review
Rock for Dimes Halifax 2014November 1, 2013 was a great night at the Cunard Centre in Halifax. So many bands, so much great music, such a worthy cause – everyone was a winner! But when it came to the ultimate prize, host Tom Bedell, announced “Project 501” as the winning band. It was a successful night all around with over $50,000 going to MODC’s Stroke Recovery Canada® program and the Conductive Education® program.

Nobody's Business at Rock For Dimes Montreal 2013November 16, 2013 saw the Rock for Dimes event hit Montreal. The audience was offered the talents of several bands, but in the end, it was “Nobody’s Business” who walked away the top band of the night. Once again, MODC’s Stroke Recovery Canada® program and the Conductive Education® program were the recipients of close to $20,000 which was raised during the event.

Rock For Dimes HollywoodRock For Dimes HollywoodDid you say, “Hollywood”? That’s right on December 3, 2013 for the first time outside of Canada, Hollywood, California was the site of a wild and crazy Rock for Dimes evening. A group from the law firm Latham and Watkins known as “Diversion” helped to make the night a success. Funds raised went to the Post-Polio programs.

Rock For Dimes Calgary 2014Rock for Dimes Calgary, was held recently on February 1, 2014 in Calgary, Alberta. There was no doubt that a dynamic time was had by all. Families living with disabilities in Calgary will be thrilled to know that over $25,000 was raised thanks to bands like The Bitchoo Men and the ultimate winner, announced by host Lucas Gilbertson, F.O.G.

Rock For Dimes VancouverThe latest Rock for Dimes event was the eighth annual Rock for Dimes Vancouver, that was held on February 21, 2014. Judges Pat Steward from The Odds, and music producers Mike Fraser and Jeff Dawson had the difficult job of picking a winner from the six competing bands, but  Lex Appeal emerged victorious! This year was special as a van retrofit was presented to two Summerland, British Columbia families, making their dreams of mobility and accessibility a reality.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved in these successful and entertaining evenings: hosts, judges, bands, audiences and supporters.
Pennzoil Retrofit Vehicle Initiative Announces Winner!
Lomond family - Pennzoil Vehicle Retrofit Initiative 2013 Winners
Lomond family, recipients of Pennzoil Retrofit Vehicle Initiative

Not only was it a great night of music, but the Halifax RFD evening also saw a very special presentation. This past year, Pennzoil partnered with March of Dimes Canada, and donated $65,000. Of that, $15,000 was allocated to the Retrofit Vehicle Initiative. The recipients of the Pennzoil support are Tracy and Mark Lomond, a North Sydney family in desperate need of a modified van.

Mark has cerebral palsy and uses a motorized wheelchair for mobility. The family’s van had broken down, and Tracy has been frequently making the four-hour trip to Halifax for Mark’s medical appointments in a car that cannot accommodate his wheelchair. As a result, she has been carrying Mark to his appointments, and her mother needed to accompany her whenever the family left the house together.

“I was so excited and overwhelmed to learn that Mark and I were the recipients of the generosity from Pennzoil. It’s going to change our lives,” says Tracy Lomond.

It’s Somebody’s Business Now!
Rock for Dimes Montreal 2013 winner Nobody's Business
They may be called, “Nobody’s Business”, but since they won the Montreal Rock for Dimes event, we know somebody took an interest in their business!

Rick Jacobson has been coming to the Rock for Dimes event for six years and as the latest performance drew closer, he wanted to bring a more high-energy, groove-oriented, Rock/Jive vibe to his music, so he went out to look for musicians and vocalists who could fill this need. Six weeks before the Montreal event Rick finally had the mix he was looking for. With only six rehearsals under their belts, Nobody’s Business hit the stage.

The audience made it their business to see that this band came out on top as the winner. It was a great and satisfying feeling for Rick who told us, “I've always derived great pleasure & enjoyment from performing music and like to give back to worthy causes whenever possible.”
