Ultimate Oscars Party!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Awards show season. I love it because if there's one thing I like more than eating delicious vegan food, it is making fun of insane outfits. The Grammy's are probably the best for this (please see: Bjork's swan dress), but the Oscars never fail to disappoint. There is always at least one coo-coo bananas 'fit in the bunch. Plus, it's equally entertaining to salivate over all the gorgeous gowns that you need to own. I usually tune out before the actual ceremony because it's bo-ring... but the red carpet? I'm in! It's super fun to invite a few friends over, mix a few cocktails, and eat some snacks while watching the craziness unfold. Bonus points if you can work the names of nominated films into your dishes. I was unable to do so below because my creativity is seriously floundering right now but I did include a special treat that's a nod to James Cameron's epic opus. And the Oscar for Best VegWeb Snacks to Eat During the Oscars goes to...

Check out some of the recipes that I'm lovin' right now:

  • James' Layered Pig-Out Nachos Supreme
  • Caramel Corn
  • Make Your Own Potato Chips
  • Insanely Good Spinach-Artichoke Dip
  • Baked Pita Chips
  • Creamy Hummus
  • Na'vi Drink

Are you normal? When it comes to spending money on food? Are you two bucks a meal or twenty? Or more? Or less? Also, if you spend more than $20 a meal, please call me up! I think you need to take me to dinner! See how you stack up when it comes to spending on food in Food bill per week.

Late nights, early(-ish) mornings. Been out drinking and still need to make it to work on time? Or perhaps you had a little too much to drink on Friday night and still want to enjoy your Saturday? Never fear, we're here to help! Check out VegWebber tips on what to eat to feel (somewhat) alive in hangover food.

St. Patty's Day! It's time for rainbows, leprechauns, and everything green! That's right, St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner and we've got all the links, contests, recipes, and giveaways to help you celebrate. So raise a glass of (green) beer to our new St Patrick's Day page!

Vitamix fanclub. I just got a Vitamix and I'm a totally different person. Some might say, a better person. The Vitamix is an amazing machine, it can pretty much blend anything, from a whole orange to an iPhone. Seriously. If you don't have one yet, VegWeb has a fabulous deal for FREE SHIPPING (!) when you order a Vitamix with our coupon code. With deals like that, there's no reason not to own one. You need it, trust me. Talk about the joys of Vitamixing and check out some awesome recipes in Club Vitamix.

The movie that I'm most excited about being up for an Oscar is The Cove. It's a documentary about the dolphin massacres in Taiji, Japan, and it's beyond heartbreaking. The Cove is doing a wonderful job educating people about the tragedy and helping to end it. Everyone should see it and pass it on to friends and family. If it wins, it'll be a big deal for dolphins. Another thing that's a big deal for dolphins? People not eating sea animals! So many dolphins are accidentally caught and killed when fishing or netting and if you love these super smart and magical creatures, you'll skip the seafood. Plus, there's no need for it when I have the absolute best recipe for a faux tuna salad EVER. It's great in a sandwich or served on crackers at your Oscars party. Like I said above, bonus points for themed food!

    What You Need:

1 (19-ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained and mashed
2-1/2 tablespoons vegan mayonnaise (I like Vegenaise or Wildwood's Garlic Aioli)
    2 teaspoons mustard
    1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
    1 scallion, chopped
    1/4 cup water chesnuts, chopped
1/2 sheet nori, toasted and crumbled
    Salt and pepper to taste

    What You Do:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and refriderate for an hour. Serve in a sandwich, on crackers, or spoon directly into your mouth!

Each week, we highlight a member of the VegWeb community who goes above and beyond to make VegWeb a truly excellent place to spend time on the internet.

    This week, meet "faunablues!"

VegWebber since? 2003, but lurking since 2000

What's the best thing about being vegan? Surprising doctors with your fantastic cholesterol levels. And when growing up, having siblings jealous over your "special vegan food."

Favorite VegWeb recipe to make for non-vegans? I guess it would be Just Like Granny B's Sugar Cookies, because that's the one I use most often to impress non-vegans.

#1 cooking secret/tip? When in doubt, follow the directions.

Ice cream or French fries? Ice cream, all the way. Purely Decadent Chunky Mint Madness.

Read faunablues's entire interview and tell her how awesome she is in the Superstar VegWebber thread!

If we were having our own Academy Awards over at VegWeb, Alicia Silverstone would surely be up for a lifetime acheivement for her roll as Cher in Clueless. Not only is it inarguably one of the best films of our time, she is amazing in it. Seriously, if you doubt me, you need to get on Netflix right now and do an instant watch of that glorious movie. Just thinking about it, I'm giggling like a crazy person. On top of that, Alicia is a hero to animals. Her new book, The Kind Diet, is an inspiration. It's filled with tips, techniques, and delicious recipes to help you live your kindest life possible. Someone give this woman an award! Please! To win a copy of The Kind Diet, head on over to our Weekly Giveaway and let me know what the best movie you saw in 2009 was.

    Good luck!

    Peace in your kitchen,
