This Week: Holiday Party Snacks!

A plate of Christmas cookies, who could resist?
Recipe Spotlight on Vegan Party Snacks
Much to either your delight or chagrin, the holidays are upon us. Work might be slowing down but family time is piling up. If you're staying close to home this holiday season, might I suggest throwing a fabulous holiday party? Hosting a party at your place means never having to leave the comfort of your own home. Having people over and plying them with food and drink is extremely fun. Forcing them to play Charades or Celebrity can be even more fun. You haven't lived until you watch your best friend try to pantomine Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Seriously, try it. And while you're at it, check out VegWeb for all of your holiday party snacking needs. Because no good party is complete without a tray of Vegetable Lavash Roll-ups. Oooh... and some crackers with White Bean Dip with Rosemary and Garlic Oil. And perhaps a few Chocolate Chunk Coconut Bars. Because you need the sweet to balance out the savory, right? Right.

Cooking with Webmistress Laura!
So maybe my boyfriend recently purchased a deep-fryer. And maybe we are having a little too much fun with it. And just maybe that means we have gotten into deep-frying bananas, sandwich cookies, and vegan candy bars. Okay, there are no maybes about it. We've definitely gotten into deep-frying bananas, sandwich cookies, and vegan candy bars. How could we resist? I wish I could tell you that we have deep Southern roots that implore us to throw everything we see into the deep-fryer but no, we don't. It's just that deep-frying is fun. It's a lot of fun. And it's a great party activity because while deep-frying might not be an everyday thing outside of my household, even your most diet-conscious friends will get a kick out of throwing a batter-covered Candy Cane Joe-Joe (my sandwich cookie of choice!) into the deep fryer. Trust me.
What You Need:
4 cups vegetable oil
1 cup almond milk
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
Selection of bananas, vegan candy bars, and sandwich cookies
What You Do:
1. Place vegetable oil in a deep fryer and heat to 375 degrees.
2. In a large bowl, mix almond milk, flour, baking powder, and salt until smooth.
3. Dip bananas, candy bars, and sandwich cookies into the batter and then place in deep fryer. Let fry until golden and crisp. Remove from fryer and place on paper towels. Serve to guests and they will all acknowledge that this is the best party they've ever been to.
