Memorial Day BBQ!
My birthday often falls on Memorial Day. It's not the case this year, but I still wanted to mention my birthday. Thank you, thank you. All presents can be sent to the VegWeb HQ. On a more serious note, Memorial Day is a day to commeorate all of the US men and women who died while serving in our military. A nice way to honor these brave soldiers and the freedom they've won for us is by celebrating it with food. It's just starting to get sunny and warm in many parts of the country, and that means backyard cookouts and picnics at the beach. Wherever you're partying, make sure to have an extra slice of cake for me. It is my birthday weekend, after all.

Check out some of the recipes that I'm lovin' right now:

  • Simple & Yummy Burgers
  • Summertime BBQ Tofu
  • Perfect Potato Salad
  • Easy Artichoke Pasta Salad
  • Black Bean & Salsa Salad
  • Peach Pie Perfection
  • Blueberry Streusel Cake with Lemon Icing

Fact: a barbecue isn't anything without a good barbecue sauce. Fact: I have the best vegan bbq sauce recipe on the West Coast. I say West Coast because I don't think I can compete with people in the South, and have you ever confronted a New Yorker about anything? I didn't think so. However, here in California where most people aren't as hyper competetive as I am, I have the winning recipe. I really enjoy living in a place where people move at a more leisurely pace... I'm always one step ahead! I don't know how this became a dissertation in how competitve I am but the point is I am and my barbecue sauce is the best! My recipe incorporates the three S's: sweet, salty, and smoky. Slather it on everything for barbecue perfection, and you'll be a hero to all at your next cookout.

    What You Need:

    2 cups ketchup
    1 cup water
    1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
    1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
    1/2 tablespoon onion powder
    1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
    1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard
    1 tablespoon lime juice
    1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon liquid smoke

    What You Do:

In a medium saucepan, combine ingredients. Bring to a boil, and reduce to simmer over low heat for 30 minutes.
