Super Bowl Snacks!
Okay, so I know as much about football as your average five-year-old. Actually, there are probably five-year-olds who know more about the game than I do. Ask me to name a quarterback, and I'll tell you Michael Jordan. Pretty good, right? I don't know the difference between a forward and a goalie (I'm just throwing out sports terms at this point), but I do love a Super Bowl party. I'm a cliché of a woman but just get me in a room with boys, snacks, and booze, and I'm a happy camper. I can pretend to enjoy hockey with the best of 'em. That's what we're watching... right? Who cares! Pass the BBQ "Chicken" Pizza! Go team!

Check out some of the recipes that I'm lovin' right now:

  • Buffalo Hot Wings
  • Cream Cheese Wontons
  • Amazing & Easy Avocado Apps
  • Spicy Chickpea Snack
  • Sweet 'n' Spicy Chili
  • Deviled Tofu
  • Cheesy Pizza Dip

Sweets for your sweet! The way to any VegWebber's heart is through their stomach. This rang especially true with me when I spent about a half hour this morning drooling over the VegNews Store and its delicious snacks. There is no better way to show someone (ie, me) you love them than with a bag of perfectly air-puffed vegan marshmallows. I really hope my boyfriend is reading this.

VegWeb is for lovers. And single folks. And everyone in between. We're celebrating the fabulousness of Valentine's Day in true VegWeb style with our sexy new Valentine's Day page. Hot recipes, links, and even vegan condoms. It's getting hot in here!

It's not you, it's me. Or maybe it's the other way around? Decoding dating speak can be difficult. What does he mean when he says, "Let's just be friends."? And what's she getting at with, "I need to find myself"? Find out how to read the not-so-clear signals that your dates might be sending you in Translations of SDP (Standard Dating Phrases).

Do you tweet? Well, I do! I'm crazy about Twitter. More specifically, I'm crazy about twittering deals, recipes, giveaways, and the latest and greatest news from the VegWeb HQ. Follow me on my VegWeb Twitter.

Since you've already voted in the VegWeb Recipe Showdown (you voted, right? There's only a week left, people!), you know there's some mighty fine recipes for vegan appetizers on VegWeb. You also might notice that several of them are deep-fried. That is no coincidence. It's because yummy finger-food and deep-fying go together like Regis and Kathie Lee. Um, before the whole break-up thing. I'm thinking some of those recipes might be perfect for a Super Bowl party. I mean, what's more sporting than deep-frying? Um, don't answer that. But really, if you want to have an amazing party, you have to bust out your fryer (or a big pot of oil and a candy thermometer works, too) and get your Super Bowl fry party on. The recipe below is for an all-purpose batter that you can coat, from pickles to pizza. Yes, deep-fried pizza. I love baseball. I mean, hockey.

    What You Need:

    4 cups vegetable oil
    8-ounce package silken tofu
    1/4 cup water
    1/2 cup flour
    1/4 cup cornmeal
    1/4 cup nutritional yeast
    1/4 cup bread crumbs
    Pinch of salt
Selection of vegetable, pickles, extra firm tofu, tempeh, seitan, pizza, you get the idea

    What You Do:

    1. Place vegetable oil in a deep fryer and heat to 375 degrees.
    2. In a medium bowl, whisk the silken tofu and water until it is fully combined.
    3. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, nutritional yeast, bread crumbs, and salt.
    4. Dip vegetables (or whatever you want to fry) into the silken tofu mixture and then coat in the flour mixture. Deep fry until crispy.

Each week, we highlight a member of the VegWeb community who goes above and beyond to make VegWeb a truly excellent place to spend time on the internet.

Read mirrya1's entire interview and tell her how awesome she is in the Superstar VegWebber thread!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to spend less money in big box stores. I don't know how many times I've spent the evening wandering around Target like a zombie, looking for a last-minute gift or a new sweater. Well, no more in 2010. This year I've resolved to buy almost everything either second-hand or from small businesses. Living in a large city, that should be fairly easy for me to accomplish. However, for those of us who want to be more socially responsible but don't have access to much other than mega chains (or ahem—are too lazy to leave the comfort of our couches), there is Vegan Etsy. Vegan Etsy is an online wonderland of completely vegan arts and crafts; I'm talking jewelry, clothing, household goods, and more. For Valentine's Day, they even have heart-shaped cakes. I just died. To get a taste for the good life, we're giving away a Vegan Etsy Grab Bag away to one lucky VegWebber. Just head over to the Weekly Giveaway Thread and let us know what your favorite sport is. I know, this one is going to be harder for some of us. Don't worry, channel surfing totally counts as a sport.

    Good luck!

    Peace in your kitchen,
