Vegan Pie Party!
Cake vs. pie, it's a dessert battle for the ages. I used to think I was strictly Team Cake, until I recently discovered an enormous affinity for pie. It can be buttery, flaky, fruity, creamy, custardy, or chocolaty—and it's almost always delicious. I know October is normally all about pumpkin pie, but I'm ready to branch out. After all, VegWeb has about a million pie recipes, and they all look divine. Now, let's all flour our cutting boards, chop up our fresh fruit, and get down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, start your ovens!

Check out some of the recipes that I'm lovin' right now:

  • Flaky-Fast-Bakery Pie and Tart Crust
  • Pecan Pie Perfection
  • Dutch Apple Pie
  • Crustless Pecan Pumpkin Pie
  • Raw Caramel Apple Pie
  • Chocolate Avocado Dream Pie
  • Classic Coconut Cream Pie

Restaurant Rundown! Sometimes you have no control over where you eat. I've been dragged to chain restaurants, fast food shacks, and steak houses on more than one occasion. The good thing is, there's always something for vegans to order, and VegWebbers have made it even easier with The official (not vegan!) restaurant vegan option review. Bon appetit!!

Trick or Treat! Give me something good to eat. And lots of it. Oh, and can you make sure it's vegan? Man, I'm picky. Well, no fear! Our super fabulous, terribly frightening VegWeb Halloween Page just went up and we're going to make sure you have the best (and scariest!) Halloween yet!

Protein Power! Looking to pump up your morning smoothie? If you need suggestions for ways to pack in the protein, or want to share your current favorite supplement, let us know in Protein Powders.

    Greatest Graham Cracker Crust
Sometimes you can't busy yourself with making an entire pie crust. All that messy flour, tiresome kneading, precarious rolling, and darned baking—it's all too much! But when you need pie, and you need it yesterday, you're going to want an excellent crust. Why not go the easy, yet still delicious, route of a graham cracker crust? With just two ingredients and 12 minutes of your time, you'll have a buttery base for all your most delightful creations. Fill it with chocolate cheesecake or PMS pie, and float away on a cloud of deliciousness. Happy baking!

    What You Need:

    10 vegan graham crackers
1/4 cup margarine (I use Earth Balance)

    What You Do:

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Using a rolling pin, smash all the graham crackers into tiny pieces. In a small bowl, melt margarine in microwave until it's liquid.
    2. In a medium bowl, mix margarine and graham crackers. In a pie pan, press graham cracker mixture until it forms the shape of a pie crust. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove and let cool, then start to build your perfect pie. Enjoy!

I love VegWeb more than anything, but sometimes I get seriously distracted by all the awesome stuff that's happening over at our sister site, VegNews. Here are some of the stories I found particularly fabulous!

Crazy for Kombucha? Love it or hate it, it looks like the fermented wonder drink is here to stay. I once gagged at its pungent aroma, but I finally gave in because it's currently more popular than water. Learn all about this crazy beverage in Kombucha Remix.

Hotel for Dogs! You know how sometimes when you're on a road trip, you have to hide your dog in your sweater when you check-in to a motel? I know some of you know what I'm talking about! Well, it's time for some of us to go legit with VegNews' list of Pet-Friendly Hotels. Doggie Roadtrip!

To Do List! Looking for some adventure in your life? There's an entire world of exciting vegan events for you to explore! VegNews compiles a constantly updated list of the country's best Vegan Events. Pack your bags!

Well, how could I write this newsletter and not give away a copy of Isa and Terry's latest and greatest cookbook, Vegan Pie in the Sky? Let's just look at this list of recipes: Maple-Kissed Blueberry Pie, She's My Cherry Pie, Chocolate-Peanut Butter Tartlets, Salted Pecan Caramel Pie, and Pumpkin Cheesecake. I'm sorry, I think I just went blind with happiness. Which is a terrible side effect to happiness, but a person can only take so much. I love pie season more than I love most humans, and this cookbook takes it to the next level. To win a copy, please head to the Weekly Giveaway Thread and let me know what your favorite pie is.

    Good luck!

    Peace in your kitchen,
