It's our scariest newsletter yet!

Recipe Spotlight on Halloween Hijinks!

Dia De Los Muertos, All Souls' Day, Halloween. Whichever way you celebrate, the scariest (and most candy-filled) time of year is upon us. Even though this holiday has become almost entirely about kids overindulging in sugary sweets, Halloween's history is rich with tradition. Did you know the scary imagery associated with Halloween is due in large parts to books starring Frankenstein and Dracula? Very creepy! Whatever its past, Halloween is now a time for both kids and adventurous adults to break out their best costumes and celebrate with yummy treats. We have recipes for everything from witches' brew to creepy-crawly candies, all waiting to be devoured. And don't worry, because they're vegan, they're not as terrifying as your average Halloween fare. So it's okay, go wild! This is Halloween, after all.

Trick or treat. Give me something good to eat. That's vegan. What do you do when you don't hand out the usual Halloween treats? Is it only apples and raisin boxes from here on out? Give and get advice that will save you from being the scariest (in a bad way) house on the block in What Do You Give to Trick or Treaters? Also, check out VegNews' Official Guide to Vegan Halloween Candy. It's a deliciously definitive list of all the Halloween treats that are fit to eat (for vegans).

Fast & easy pumpkin bread!

Cooking with Webmistress Laura!

For those of us lucky enough to live near a Trader Joe's, this is certainly the most delicious time of the year. It's when they bust out the box mix for pumpkin bread. This stuff is wonderful. When you don't have the time to make one of VegWeb's fabulous pumpkin breads from scratch, this is the next best thing. You just pick up a box of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix (it's only $2.99!) and with a couple substitutions (think omitting gross eggs and replacing them with yummy canned pumpkin), you have the most amazing, moist, fabulous pumpkin bread on the planet. I mean, except for the ones on VegWeb. Of course.

What You Need:

1 box of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup oil
1 cup water

What You Do:

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin, oil, and water.
3. Stir in the box of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread Mix.
4. Pour mixture into a well-greased 10 x 5-inch pan and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Wait 10 minutes and then eat the loaf whole. Or, you know, share.

Weekly Giveaway: Parma Gift Pack!

Parma is a nutty, cheesy, rich condiment that can be tossed on top of anything to make it ten times better. It is my latest obsession. I was introduced to it during lunch at VegNews, where it is an office staple/addiction. They put it on everything, from popcorn to salads to pasta, and have made me a true convert/obsessed crazy person. I'm now buying it in bulk. I wish that were a lie. We're giving away a fabulous Parma gift pack, with huge 7-ounce jars of Parma and a super-cute cotton tee emblazoned with the Parma logo. Want! For a chance to win the gift pack, just head over to our Weekly Giveaway Thread and let us know what dish you'd most like to cover in Parma.

Good luck!

Peace in your kitchen,
