Dear Colleague:

The HIV Update course is a comprehensive continuing medical education program specifically designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care providers caring for HIV-infected patients.  CME and CE credit is available!

The program features the science of viral replication and its clinical application, antiretroviral therapy including initiation, salvage therapy and post-exposure prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of primary HIV infection, women’s health issues in HIV, and International and Global perspectives.  Detailed discussions of HIV complications including opportunistic infections, malignancies, hepatitis B and C co-infection and other challenging cases will be presented. Participants will have ample opportunities to ask questions and interact with the experienced faculty.

In this course attendees will:  

* Review the current standards of care in monitoring and treating patients with HIV infection from the asymptomatic stage through the various clinical manifestations.

  * Assess recent advances in the field, e.g. genotypic and phenotypic testing, new antiretroviral agents, approach to initial treatment and salvage therapy, gender issues in HIV, community acquired MRSA epidemiology and treatment.

  * Review new information about long-term complications including Hepatitis and malignancies.

  * Analyze the wide range of manifestations in HIV disease. The findings with which patients most typically present to their primary care provider in the outpatient setting will be stressed.

  * Evaluate the current understanding of infections that continue to be difficult management issues and important epidemiological problems.

  * Assess objective risks of the healthcare worker caring for HIV infected patients and current recommendations if exposure to potentially infected body fluids occurs.
