that’s what we saw last week when the judges convened for this year’s Technology Innovation Awards at the headquarters for Sprint’s new WiMax venture, XOHM. The judges reviewed twenty applications from nonprofits across our region. They were all amazed at how much nonprofits can do with so little money!

2008 Technology Innovation Awards Finalists

ImageWe're delighted to announce the four finalists for the 2008 NPower Greater DC Region Technology Innovation Awards (TIA), presented by Accenture. The finalists with budgets in the $500,000 - $2,000,000 range are Peace X Peace and The Posse Foundation. Finalists with budgets over $2,000,000 include Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation.

The judging panel will meet again in October. The four finalists will present their technology innovations and answer questions from the panel. The winners will be announced at the Awards Luncheon on October 17, at the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) in downtown Washington from 11:30am - 1:30pm.

New & Familiar Faces

ImageJeff Mates has joined NPower as an Associate Technology Consultant. He is working with our managed services clients and providing technical support. Jeff recently graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with a major in Economics. Jeff can be reached at Jeff@npowergdcr.org.

Sheryl Augustine is assuming the role of Operations Manager at NPower. She will be working directly with our clients and our tech team to make sure that our client's projects go as smoothly as possible. She will also be assuming responsibility for ordering client hardware and software, as well as scheduling infrastructure projects. Sheryl can be reached at Sheryl@npowergdcr.org.


Environmentally Safe Recycling Drop Off Day

A recent paper presented by Swiss researchers reveals that only 60% of Internet users use up-to-date, fully patched web browsers. What the researchers found is that although software vendors provide patches for security problems, it can take days, weeks, or months before people update their applications. In the meantime, those users are at risk!
