Ask Nurse Rona

Q: I like to make holidays special for my children, but I also want them to be healthy, and of course not to be greedy and grabby – and I'm finding that Halloween is particularly challenging trying to balance these competing ideals. Help!

A: One goal in raising children is to move to middle ground parenting while setting limits. We want our children to have fun and be creative, and it's up to us to set guidelines and communicate our values to keep them safe, healthy, and happy. There are different ways parents can set limits. Here are some examples:

  • Eat as much as you want that night and then throw the rest away
  • Eat 10 pieces on Halloween night and then one or two  piece each day for a week

Live: Weather Watch

We have recently added a live web cam which show a view of the weather here at the Museum. It looks out over the Art Studios for a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Click here to see if the fog or sun has decided to come out today - sometimes the fog has moved into the Bay but it's still sunny here!

Hip Kid's Music Series

We bring another series of fun and creative Saturday performances to the Discovery Theatre starting October 25.

We interviewed Alex Delucca from Baby Blue Blues Band.

BADM: How did Ray the Rhino join your group?

Alex: We wanted a mascot…and then we found Ray the Rhino. We were all shopping for sunglasses at the mall and we saw this big rhino also shopping for sunglasses. Ray looked cool and so we asked “Hey Ray, you look cool want to be in our band?” Ray gave us a thumbs up and joined the band! Read more here.
