We have plenty of holiday activities for all this December. Win tickets to our jazz musical The SnowCat beginning December 15 - a lovely universal story for the holidays. Come and entice your child's creativity at our Art Studios with Kwanzaa crafts and ornament making. Clifford the Big Red Dog is still making appearances at the Museum during Doggie Days. And don't forget to visit our Museum Store for safe, interactive and fun gifts for your holiday shopping!

P.S. We're open on Monday, December 17 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Museum will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve & New Years Day.

Bring your camera to meet Clifford in person during Doggie Days:

  • Saturday, December 1: 11 a.m: Dog Gone Fun. Give your little kid a chance to shake, wiggle & roll over with Clifford in an interactive performance workshop. Register online.
  • Saturday, December 1 & 8: 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. Meet Clifford.
  • Saturday, December 8: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Meet wonderful animals from the Marin Humane Society. Learn more about animals, their behavior and training.
  • Saturday, December 15: 10 a.m.- noon. Meet Clifford.
  • Saturday, December 17 - 21: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Meet Clifford.

 The SnowCat

A True San Francisco Original: Dmitri Matheny
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is proud to present the return engagement of The SnowCat.

An original music production by flugelhornist and composer Dmitri Matheny, The SnowCat is the heartwarming tale of a little girl's search for her wandering white cat on a chilly afternoon set in the heart of San Francisco. 

  • Family fun for all ages. Admission includes a free SnowCat coloring book for each child! Register online.

The Discovery Forum raises support for the Museum’s educational exhibitions and programs, and serves to increase awareness about current topics in education. Experience the rich traditions of Kwanzaa featuring a celebration of African-American culture through hands-on activities, performances and food. Celebrate Kwanzaa throughout the Museum with art projects inspired by the African continent, a Kwanzaa altar in the Museum’s Entry Pavilion and free performances by the African Queens

 Gingerbread Architecture Extravaganza

Q: My kids are already making wish lists for the holidays. How do I teach my kids to appreciate what they already have?

A: Today's kids -even very young ones - are exposed to more commercial messages than ever before. Which means that parents have to work extra hard to teach children about values such as gratitude, compassion and kindness.  Discovery Guide of the Month Tami Lau

Tami is very close to her family. Her younger brother goes to UC Berkeley. She has great respect for her family and especially her parents, who immigrated to the United Sates from China. 

What are some of your hobbies?

My hobbies are hiking and camping. I also like knitting, reading all kinds of books, fiction, non-fiction and science fiction. I especially love to bake sweet things like pies and cakes.  

Where would you travel if you had the chance?
I would go everywhere but I'd really love to go to New Zealand, Australia, Europe. Also, I'd like to go to China to visit my country.
