Kettlebell Workshop with Glenn Kohler
Sunday, June 27 from 11:30am to 1:00pm
Pre-registration required. $25
Class size limited to 10 participants
Kettlebells look like cast iron cannonballs with a handle and they come in a wide range of weight increments so people of all fitness levels can participate. Training with kettlebells is a fun & efficient way to build CORE strength, get a true full body workout, improve one's posture, and burn more calories than traditional weight training. Due to the kettlebell’s unique shape, one utilizes momentum in moving and swinging weights. This movement, not only improves performance in sports, but more consequential, trains the body as a unit to better handle the demands of every day life because every exercise involves core muscles.

In this workshop, Glenn will introduce the basics of kettlebell training while focusing on proper form and body mechanics. He will move the class through a series of progressive exercises, taking into consideration individual skill and fitness levels. Participants will experience a full body, dynamic workout, and be taught how kettlebell training is highly transferable to a wide variety of athletic and everyday life activities, while making the individual more resistant to injuries and setbacks.

Requirements for participants include the ability to perform a three quarter squat and no moderate to acute back pain. Glenn welcomes those, given the aforementioned requirements, to come and truly enjoy the benefits of kettlebells with him. Please contact Glenn if you have questions of fitting the requirements at: (215) 635-4381.

Kabbalah and Yoga:
Balanced Actions and Our Divine Embodiment
with Rabbi Myriam Klotz

Tuesday, July 27 & Tuesday August 10, 2010 from 7:30-9:30 PM

$40/series and/or $20 per class
Pre-registration with payment by July 20th
$50/series after the deadline
$30/class

The Kabbalah, or received mystical wisdom, is in part a contemplation of the Divine sephirot or energies that create and sustain our world. These teachings assume that each person embodies the energy states of the sephirot as reflections of the Divine, and that these energetic qualities manifest in specific ways in our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.

In this workshop we will explore some mystical teachings about the sephirot through text study and conversation, and investigate through yoga practice how awareness of these energetic qualities in our bodies can help us find balanced, skillful and joyous expression of them in our lives as a whole. The only requirement is a desire to reflect on the sephirot and how they manifest in the body, spirit, heart and mind.

" No Time To Lose " by Pema Chödrön

In No Time to Lose, Chödrön reveals the traditional Buddhist teachings that guide her own life: those of The Way of the Bodhisattva (Bodhicharyavatara), a text written by the eighth-century sage Shantideva. This treasured Buddhist work is remarkably relevant for our times, describing the steps we can take to cultivate courage, caring, and joy—the key to healing ourselves and our troubled world. Chödrön offers us a highly practical and engaging commentary on this essential text, explaining how its profound teachings can be applied to our daily lives. This is an addition to our regular on going Reads. We will take our time ( 6 months) to read this book and open it to a discussion in the late Fall.

And as a second offer we announce the next Yoga Evolution Book Club is scheduled for July 15th, Thursday 7:30pm at Sherri's house.
Call studio for details and location.
The book chosen is Little Bee by Chris Cleave. We understand that summer can be a busy time with family and vacations.
As the date approaches, we will see how many of us will be able to attend and decide at that time whether we should go ahead and meet.
We will send out an e mail around the beginning of July when plans are more set for everyone.
Whether we have book club or not in July, this book is a great read!

For those of you who want more for the summer:
Here are the additional books mentioned as summer reading choices

Faith by Sharon Salzberg
The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein
Lamb, The Gospel according to Biff by Christopher Moore

Happy Reading,
Jennifer and Sharon
