News of the Times
Welcome to NueVista View! As always, our goal is to deliver worthwhile marketplace perspectives and some interesting insights into the business climate, especially as they relate to information technology.
Recently, I was driving home from a dinner meeting and realized it was only 8:00 p.m. and already completely dark! This was when it hit me that we are less than four months from the end of 2010—possibly one of the most interesting and challenging years any of us will ever face, both personally and professionally. So what’s happening now? What can we expect as we look ahead?
The good news is that the IT sector is rebounding in a big way, as technology has become a key business driver in most industries. In fact, a survey of NueVista Group’s customers make it clear that a majority of companies are planning on increased hiring of full-time employees over the next several months and in the coming year.
Additionally, companies are using more consulting and contract workers until they are sure that the recovery is fully underway. Based on our year-to-date results, this clearly is holding true. While the general unemployment rate is around 10%, the unemployment rate in IT is only about 5%! As companies look to fill key positions, they are finding it as difficult as ever to find high-quality talent, with some critical skills nearly impossible to source.
According to a recent CareerBuilder survey, companies would like to see staffing firms provide “better-quality candidates” and a “more efficient screening process”. These same companies when asked how they decide which staffing firm to use, responded overwhelmingly (almost 2/3 of the total responses) that the “staffing firm’s reputation” and their “past experience with the firm” is the deciding factor.
It pleases me greatly to share with you that NueVista continues to earn high marks in all these areas. Commitment to quality has been our hallmark since day one. We strive to maintain and exceed our reputation for quality and responsiveness. Our experienced team is dedicated to ensuring that we fully understand the best ways to help make our clients successful. Any of us at NueVista would be pleased to discuss with you how we make this happen and to help you prepare for the busy—thank goodness—months ahead.
We hope you enjoy this issue, and we certainly welcome your comments and suggestions for future articles.
