Most likely you or somebody you care about is traveling over the coming holidays. In fact, in the United States, Thanksgiving is the busiest travel period of the year. Instead of waiting until the last minute, plan ahead and make your holiday travel experience as pleasant as possible with a little advice from your friends here at TripIt.

TripIt Holiday Travel Tips

1Double-check that you’ve booked everything you need (airline, hotel, rental car, etc.) and be sure to forward all those travel confirmations to plans@tripit.com. Then you can just use the information in your TripIt Itinerary to quickly check on everything—click-thru to SeatGuru to find the best seats on your flight, check-in for your flight online, or contact your hotel and rental car providers.

2Plan ahead and add whatever local maps and driving directions you’ll need for your trip...for parties, dinners, events, etc. We’ve improved TripIt maps quite a bit recently. Maps display much faster than before, and it’s easier to add point-to-point driving directions directly in your itinerary.

3Share your TripIt itinerary with your family so they have all your travel info in one place. And if you’re traveling with a group, invite the other travelers to collaborate on your itinerary, so that everyone can add maps, notes and even restaurant reservations to the same itinerary. In fact, you can now email TripIt your restaurant confirmations from OpenTable, which serves more than 8,000 restaurants in the U.S., U.K. and around the world.

4The biggest bottleneck at most airports over the holidays is the security lines. Be sure to give yourself some extra time and consider checking most of your carry-on bags. And if you’re traveling with gifts, leave them unwrapped in case your bags are searched, and plan ahead to check any liquid gifts like wine or egg nog—yes, it’s highly unlikely you’ll be traveling with egg nog, but you get the point.

5Finally, with TripIt you can leave that manila travel folder at home, but don’t forget to print your final TripIt itinerary. Alternatively, if you’re traveling with a laptop or mobile device with email access, you can use TripIt To Me to get your itinerary details sent to you. Just email a command such as “get flight today” to plans@tripit.com and we’ll email you the details. Learn more about TripIt To Me here.

Happy Travels!
