8th Annual Promise of Hope LuncheonKi
Thursday, April 7th
12:00 Noon - 1:00 p.m.
Ritz Charles in Overland Park
CASA invites you to attend the 8th Annual Promise of Hope Luncheon. Featured speaker Ashley Jackson will share her personal experience of life in kinship foster care. A senior at Missouri State University, Ashley serves as an “All-Star” for Foster Club, a national network connecting current and former foster youth. Empowering foster youth to grow their potential, Foster Club provides leadership opportunities for youth to effect change. Ashley has traveled the country to raise her voice on how a community and one person can support children in care. Come and listen as she shares her experiences!
Guests will also hear from a CASA volunteer and an adoptive family. Christa Dubill of NBC Action News will serve as emcee. The Promise of Hope is free for all attendees; however, contributions are requested. Visit the event website to reserve your seat or make a donation. Proceeds will benefit CASA children and those who are still in need of CASA advocacy. To serve as a Table Captain, contact Alyssa by email or at 913-715-4035.
* A special breakout session for CASA volunteers will immediately follow the event.
CASA Partners with Time Warner Cable Media Sales
“Connect with Your Community”
You may soon see a number of CASA ads running during your favorite cable show. What's going on? Time Warner Cable Media Sales has selected CASA as a charity of choice for their 2011 “Connect with Your Community” outreach campaign. One of 5 selected agencies, CASA was nominated by Time Warner Cable staff and then voted on as a partner. Promoted as a “cause to care about”, clients of Time Warner Cable now have the opportunity to align their community giving to the mission of CASA, while also increasing the awareness of this important program. The “Connect with Your Community” campaign will also benefit Jackson County CASA. The two agencies share a website, www.casakc.org as well as a toll-free phone number.
CASA would like to thank Franci Massey, Marci Farmer, Matt Thun and all of our friends at Time Warner Cable Media Sales. Thank you for your commitment to CASA and this campaign. Your in-kind services and generosity is much appreciated.
Thank You! Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund

CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties was recently awarded grant monies from the Olathe Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. Julie Miles, CASA staff member and volunteer, was on-hand to accept the award. Monies from the grant will establish a CASA children’s enrichment fund, where aid will be available for youth to participate in activities such as summer camps or a school-sponsored extracurricular activity. With the assistance of CASA volunteers, these opportunities will build confidence, self-esteem and social skills.
CASA would like to congratulate the other deserving children’s agencies. Thank you to Olathe Mayor Mike Copeland, the Board and the Olathe community for your support of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. Your generosity will benefit many local children and families.
Birthday in a Box Program
Because every child should get to celebrate one day a year…..even children in foster care.
We make "Birthday Boxes" for abused and neglected children who are in foster care. Frequently, "our" children get left out on important days like birthdays. The birthday boxes or bags will be filled with a gift, streamers, napkins, paper plates, party hats, balloons, a birthday card, and gift cards for pizza and/or cake.
CASA birthday parties get rave reviews:
-
“This is my best birthday ever!”
-
“I’ve never had a birthday cake before.”
-
“Wow! Is all of this for me?”
A CASA birthday box is better than an Oscar night swag bag and you can help make that happen. Would you, your group, or company like to bring a smile to CASA children on their birthday? Our current wish list includes: Pizza Gift Cards, Birthday Candles, Birthday Cards, Balloons, Wrapping Paper, Gift Cards and Presents for teen boys and girls. If you would like to donate or sponsor these special children, please contact Nina Kimbrough-Smith at 913-715-4042 or email her at
nkimbrough-smith@casajwc.com.
A Conversation with CASA
A Lunch & Learn Opportunity
Each session provides an opportunity for guests to meet with CASA staff, volunteers and others who are committed to making a difference in a child's life. The event provides potential volunteers, friends, donors and others with a deeper understanding of CASA and our mission of advocating for abused and neglected children. These events are free and refreshments are provided. Please RSVP to Nina via email or 913-715-4042.
