Actress Annette Bening, one of SF State’s most famous alumni, has rediscovered the love for theatre that she kindled as a child. The three-time Academy Award nominee stars in the title role “Medea” at UCLA Live’s International Theatre Festival. In February, she stars in Joanna Murray-Smith’s “The Female of the Species.”

“The great plays become the vehicle for everything in your life while you’re working,” Bening said in a Los Angeles Times article published Sept. 19. “When you think about your own life and own family, it all becomes through that prism.”

Bening (B.A., Drama, ’80) is still on the A-list in Hollywood. Her role in Rodrigo Garcia’s “Mother and Child” is already getting Oscar buzz. She also stars in “The Kids Are All Right,” scheduled for 2010.
